  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anybody See Today's LA Times Business Section?

It is interesting that a lot of you seem to think a rental company lives and dies based on the technology they carry, rather than the service they provide.

I certainly don't. Especially when we're discussing a company whose reputation and brand is based on exactly that.

I could care less about Panavision. I don't dislike them, but they are just another old guard company that has been overcharging for their equipment and services for years. I don't feel any sympathy for them.

You don't care about them - I think you might be misguided or even jaded by something you ( I assume ) are not all the experienced or familiar with.
Actually, they don't overcharge for what they rent out. They rent out top of the line cameras, lenses and support. They provide stellar service and technical support. And don't forget the knowledge... Perhaps it's more you can't/couldn't afford at the rates? Have you ever rented or even worked with Panavision? Wether you feel they're overcharging or not - you get what you pay for with them. And sometimes more.

Panavision may be a "big boy", and rightly so, but they are Panavision. That company is responsible for so many advancements in camera and lens technology, as well as cinema history...

At the end of the day, I'd rather shoot 35mm with a GII than anything else... But you can't buy the best film camera system, it's rental only - if Panavision sold their cameras at an affordable rate in the neighborhood of the RED, they would sell their inventory I'm sure without problem...

I know most of what I'm saying is opinion based, but show some respect to those who deserve it. I really don't understand why people are so negative towards a company they have no reason to be...

Just wonder if is Panavision also affected by Arri?

I wonder if that $35 million in Sony cams has anything to do with the Dynamax sensor John Galt discussed a while back?

And very cool to see Brook quoted.

Panavision to relocate

Panavision to relocate

Leases on existing buildings are coming up for renewal and Panavision will
combine Woodland Hills and Hollywood locations into a new building in Burbank, which will not surprisingly be the biggest rental facility in LA,
it will house camera rental and crane rental operations, manufacturing and research and development, as well as corporate headquarters.

From the press release of 20th July
“In today’s economy, it just makes sense to combine our facilities,” said Bill Bevins, President and CEO, Panavision Inc. “Our customers expect a certain level of service, and we will continue to provide that. We are excited about the opportunities this move will create for Panavision and our customers.”

I could see that one new company in a near future will be named REDVISION.

This is just in case that Panavision could continue to loose its money

and Jim could be somehow "forced" to take over Panavision because in that case it would be much easier for RED to compete against Sony and Arri.

Actually this could be FANTASTIC because RED would get excellent rental facilities worldwide, amazing set of Panavision lenses,

also all Panavision film cameras (16mm, 35mm & 65mm) and much easy access to stream new RED-X, EPIC and SCARLET to the main Hollywood movie productions.

In that case all of them REDVISION, SONY and ARRI would be somehow balanced on the market and competition between them would be much easier.

So what'ya think?

But maybe it's just a dream...!!!???

Or also my two Austrian Schillings :biggrinjester:
