Hi! I would edit with the Avid Media Composer 3.0, how can i transcode the R3D files? May I lose quality after the transcoding? Do you think it's better to edit with the native R3D files? Thank you! :)

What is your final delivery going to be? You can distribute R3D so it will need to turn into something at some point, be SD, HD, 2K, 4K (DPX, etc.).

Michael

The final delivery will be 1080i and 1080p. The native R3D files are 2k. :)

Onestly I don't know yet, what I have to do is to put into Avid the R3D files =\ and after editing I have to use After Effects

Do you have Premiere as part of the larger Adobe Bundle?
If so i would recommend transcoding all your footage to a lo-res offline resolution and after your cut is locked sending that to Premiere and Re-connect to the .R3D files natively and then you can just open that in After Effects directly from Premiere. that would also give you the ability to do minor editing tweaks on premiere if necessary without having to re-export from AVID.

PM for more detailed info in an email or discussion.

Hi Jason, I sent you a PM ;)

Sorry but I have another question! =\

When I transcode the R3D files (with Red Cine) into DnxHD for Avid I set the resolution at 2k.
The point is:the maximun resolution for a project in Avid Media Composer is 1080p so, maybe it's better to transcode the R3D files at 1080p?

Which of the two options is better?

Thank you to all again! :)

If going to Media Composer and HD is your final master, you want to scale to 1920 x 1080 in REDrushes.
