  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

>> Thriller concept trailer - on RED :)

Fantastic cinematography and production design. Absolutely gorgeous. My main criticism would be that I don't really have any idea what the story is about. Is the house haunted? Is some inventor just losing his mind? I don't really need to know explicitly what the plot is, but I wasn't really given enough to be intrigued and want to find out more.
From an editorial standpoint, I would say that I would avoid showing so many straight clips from the movie. Modern trailers typically will have the dialogue from one scene playing over the visuals from another scene. At the very least, let us hear the dialogue begin as voice over and then cut to the image of the person talking for the last half of the line. It makes for smoother cuts, just as it does within a normal movie scene.
Fantastic job overall. Good luck getting the funding.

thank you for your feedback on this :) ... I wanted to make it a point to not give away anything from the plot at this time -- hence being a concept trailer, showing the "look and feel" for the film. ... and again... thank you for your constructive feedback... very much appreciated.

Fantastic cinematography

Wow, who ever that is. They have some serious talents.

Editing need some help still, It not tight enough.

"We need financing"

We are always interested in good commercially viable projects.

This one look good.

awesome jensklein. the dark shots and the one larger outdoor shot are amazing. do you have any info on these shots as far as lighting/grading etc? please.

my only small suggestions are to separate or align the very first text a bit differently. due to the text being center aligned the bottom few words look strange. also the 3d title looks really sad next to all of this fantastic footage. here is a suggestion on a budget for a more dynamic title.

find or create some really old looking paper (burn marks/yellowish). use a quill pen with ink and have someone hand write out the words "The Cellar" in big cursive writing. use your RED to film the person writing this (from a close-up overhead view so that you can directly see the writing on the paper. now retime the footage and add some jitter effect so that the title is being written very quickly.

looking forward to seeing more.

... great feedback. All titles and the main title logo will be done from scratch once we get real with this project. Nice suggestion on the THE CELLAR title though:) The dark shots in the beginning was footage from the location scouting, days before the shoot. I digitally re-lighted the shots and graded the heck out of it. The opening shot is a montage which I added rain and drops on the windows. The best part however is what happens in this story :)

Zeiss Super Speed primes .... opening and hallway shots were shot with available light (during location scouting)--> then digitally relit. All other shots by my DP Jeff Garton.
Did a great job on this :) ... thanks for your interest and comments.

sounds cool thanks for the info. good luck with the rest of your film.

Very nice visuals. Congrats. The only things I would change would be, as a previous poster suggested...have most of your dialog offscreen. Speaking of dialog the consider sweetening it a bit more. It sounds a bit "hollow". Lastly the edit needs work. Particularly in rhythm. The current cut builds little to no tension. You'll find having your dialog offscreen will help a bit with that. Also you may want to show the conventional shots in the begining and build up to your surreal visuals as the trailer moves forward....just a thought. Anyway I'm sure there are a hundred different ways you could make it work.

nonetheless great visuals.
