  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

I just put a deposit down. Should I have paid in full? Does red contact me for the rest of the moolah when its ready to ship?

They will contact you when it's just about ready, at which time you can pay the rest.

If you absolutely can't wait and want it the moment it's ready to ship, go ahead and pay in full, but it will only save you a couple of days in the end.

I'm an idiot I know, but can someone explain to me how the two DVI ports on the Rocket feed quad DVI?

They're not DVI ports physically although they do look similar. They're high bandwidth, high density ports. Each one breaks out into two DVI connectors or they connect directly to the break out box.

That explains it! Told you I was an idiot... :blush2:

Do cables come with it or do we have to get them separately? I'm not getting the breakout.

Thanks for the clarification Deanan, shouldn't you be asleep right now? ;-)

Thanks for the clarification.

The two break out cables come with the board along with the slot filler that has the two hdsdi (for dual link) connectors on it.

Deanan,

Got a pic of the breakout box?

Sweet! Now seriously, go to bed!

he's not allowed to yet :) I think Deanan and Rob are now on 12 days of no sleep.. i wanna see if they turn into pumpkins after 14 days :)

Heh. Only 5 p.m. here in Sydney so these hours work well for me!

I guess if I worked for Red I wouldn't want to sleep either. Too much world-changing to do to waste your time on rest!

You would be amazed at just how accurate your statement is..

Yeah, almost every night there are emails flying around at 2am and sometimes later. Even at almost 1am the office is not empty and a couple of guys like Bender are on chat hammering away on new stuff.

OMGZ!!!
LOVE IT! I am gonna pimp mine out. Gonna put a HUGE cooler on that GPU
and big fat copper mosfets on the RAM! And NO, I don't care if it needs it!
Don't tell me not to or I'll buy some red LEDs and really go overboard.
HAHAHA... Ok, I may be kidding, but this little sucker is gonna be swheeet!

Correct me if I'm wrong.... But the two high-density ports on the back of the rocket card are all that is needed to feed the BOB, right? Therefore, I'm assuming that the SDI is embedded on one or both of these ports.

Would it be possible to make a cable that gives us SDI out of one of these ports rather than using the internal connectors and slot filler? As another option, of course. That would be a nice option for those of use without a free in which to place the filler and who don't need the full BOB.

Sexy card, BTW. :)

Is it not possible to have a break out cable with the hdsdi connectors as well? Instead of the slot filler? I just foresee a lot of people having to modify their MacPro towers otherwise. I know there is the break out box, but a lot of people won't need all the options on it. Just wondering what the options will be.

I guess you beat me to the punch Jeff. I simply didn't type fast enough.

No surprise. It's hard to fathom, but considering these wonders are something you guys have managed to create from scratch you're probably more anxious to see them in our hands than we are.
