So here are some clips from a project that I'm working on where I'm filming from some helicopters in Alaska. This is just a short highlight reel from some of the work I've done. I'm currently back up in Alaska shooting some more for the project- and I've had a great time doing aerial work!

Unfortunately, due to the project requirements, I cannot post the full 1080p video. (Which looks GREAT!) But hopefully it will still convey the overall images.

WOW! Stunning work here Ryan. Do you have a picture of what your setup is while shooting? It seems really stable, and since you mentioned 'hanging out' I'd have to assume the camera was not in one of those under-carriage stabalizing rigs. Were you useing a gyro?

Thanks. :) I just arrived back out at the barge, and I'll be headed out to shoot more tomorrow. (There is very slow internet access through a satellite connection.)

Anyway- I used a small tyler mount that went under the camera and had a couple of gyros in it. It worked reasonably well, however, the footage still needed a little but of stabilization in post. Which was more then fine for this project as we shot in 4k for delivery in 1080p just incase any stabilization had to be done. Worked out great IMO.

Thanks. They are for power lines- up here in Alaska everything has to be barged up river and then massive helicopters pick up the equipment and the crew and fly it all in to the various locations. In this case it is the installation of power poles- and the helicopter is "dropping" those poles onto the bases from about 75' - 100' up- it takes a lot of skill to do what they do!

Good stuff Ryan. What were you in? Those little 500's are hard to get a shot out of. I used a handheld Tyler with a EX3 in a R44 and it was tough to get good shots.

Thanks.

I was in two different helicopters depending on what was available. The small 500 in which we took out the back two seats and removed the doors, and then the next size up (I do not remember what they are called off hand.). Not a lot of room in the 500, that is for sure!

You can see photo's form the first time I went up last year here:

However, that time I was shooting with the HVX & HPX-500. Warren (the other camera guy) was shooting with his Red at that time. (He let me shoot with it some then. Now I'm shooting with my Red.
