I am editing a feature film which I was on location for and organizing the RED footage on an MacBook Pro laptop. The DIT person strongly suggested wrapping the 4k R3D files NATIVE so I'm working with 2k files. I did some rough edits on location but the footage playback was very choppy which I just chalked up to lack of processing power on the laptop.
I have a 8core 2.26 Nehalem Mac with standard 6gigs of Ram and the base NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB card. My monitors are a 1st generation 23" Apple Cinema Display and a 22" inch Samsung cheapie which is basically my bin monitor. Running FCP 6.0.6
I have the RockertRaid 4322 running to a Proavio EB8-MS with 4 Samsung 1TB Spinpoint drives formatted as Raid 5.
I've just finished formatting the Raid and copied over a few FCP Native clips to see if playback would be smooth. I'm getting the same choppy playback on my desktop as I did on the laptop. Any suggestions as to what needs to be upgraded for smooth Native 2k playback?
