Not sure if there is a solution for what I need. I have a lightweight hiking setup without bottom rails, currently using 25mm Master Prime for landscapes. I need a matte box that would accommodate circular polarizer and ND grad filter.

Do you have experience using 5.65x5.65 matte box as a clamp on? Would this setup stress too much the PL mount? What matte box would be the best as clamp on?

Thanks
Radim

Don't know why you would need 5.65x5.65 with a Master prime 25mm. You could do this with any of serval ARRI clamp-on matteboxes, but the smallest, least expensive that will also allow rotation of a filter stage would be the MMB-1. The rear clamp is 138mm for which there is a reducer to 130mm, into which common-sized lens clamp rings are available such as the 114mm you would need. The mattebox has two 4x5.65 stages with the rear one rotating.

Thanks. If I understand it correctly, matte 4x5.65 box is not going to vignette when rotating 4"x5.65" polarizer with 25mm MP? Does that mean I could go with 4x4 matte box as well?

What about ND grad filters, those have to be 5.65x5.65 so they can slide, right? We use our camera in both, vertical and horizontal orientation, and I need to be able to slide ND grad filter in both direction. Can MMB-1 do that? From what I've seen in your videos, you can slide only from top with special adapter.

Sorry for so many questions, but this is rather complex with so many variables. Thanks.

You would need to get the accessory replacement tray. I don't think a 4x4 would properly cover a 25mm Master Prime. If you really want 5.65x5.65 in clip-on with rotating stages, then the solution is an ARRI MB20-II in clip-on configuration. Available in two-stage or three-stage.

It might. I would suggest two-stage for clip-on.

my sense is that I will not need to rotate the ND grads very much, perhaps 10-20 percent, most of the time it will be perfectly horizontal. In that case I might not need 5.65x5.65 ND grads, and 4x5.65 might be enough. Would MMB1 fit my needs in this case?

Yes, you should be fine on a 25mm, but rotate too far and it will cut into the frame.

How about chrozsiel 130? Seems like that one would allow me to put 5x5 ND grad or polarizer, so I can freely rotate and slide as well in both directions. Is that true? That might be better option than.
