Hi Guys,

Have tried searching but this is all very overwhelming. I'm used to working with P2 so this is a big change!.

We used Metafuze 1.2 to convert the R3D files into dnx36
The offline Edit was done on MC 3.5
I now need to conform the files @ dnx185 but am at a loss as to how to automate this.

The mastering/grade will be done on Symphony Nitris.

Thanks in advance

Hi Audi

I have yet to go down the MetaFuze route be here is how I've successfully posted 4 shorts that are being mastered this week.

My bit pre import is different to yours so I won't go into that (though it follows the information in the RedRushes section of the Avid StepbyStep www.avid.com/red

To get the sequence upresed to DNxHD185X I copied the final sequence into an empty bin, decomposed the sequence to generate a list of used shots. I then printed the bin and used the R3D filename coloum to bring only those shots back into RedCine (a pull list of sorts) and then output new DNxHD QT files. I then selected all the master clips in the the decomp bin and simply batch captured this time pointing Avid to the new 185X files.

Worked a treat!

Hope that helps

G.

The step by step guide on Avid.com/red walk you through a pull list/conform from a re-transcode.

Thanks for the info guys, I misunderstood that metafuze couldnt be used to conform so will use Redcine as suggested.

I've come across a new stumbling block, after making the XML in filmscribe I went to the avid website to get the template to change it to a Redcine xml pullist but both say it will only work if Redcine made the origional ALE's - I used metafuze to make the ALEs.

Quote:

  • FS_Scan_REDCINE_318
For use with REDCINE v3.1.8 or later. Translates a master FilmScribe XML into REDCINE XML for selects. This file can only be used when the ALE was originally generated from the REDCINE XML file. (Mac OS X and Windows) [zip 4KB].
  • FS_Scan_REDCINE
For use with REDCINE v3.1.5 and earlier. Translates a master FilmScribe XML into REDCINE XML for selects. This file can only be used when the ALE was originally generated from the REDCINE XML file. (Mac OS X and Windows) [ zip 2KB]

How big is the project? The issue is how REDcine wants to load a pull list. It does not know how to re-index based on a pull list if any of the UNC paths have changed. cineXML may be what you need to resolve this connection.

Thanks Michael,

It is a 97 minute low budget feature. Is this workflow not advised? Would it work if we were to take it to a DS suite or other DI facility.

Because you started in MetaFuze, DS would offer the best conform due to the AAF for conform (layers, effects, titles, etc.) and it has direct access to the native R3D to link to and work form there. From there you can always export as DPX to a DI system, or finish right in DS.
