Hi guys,

Does anybody know if Redcine will support AJA's Kona 3 video card, for output? This will be very helpful

Not 100% sure what you're asking, but redcine is currently a stand alone application which does not directly support any output card. However it wll re der file that cod the. Be played out hdsdi through k3. One of the complaints about redcine (or redalert) is that it does. Ot support an external monitor beyond the computer monitor on which the applicayion is running. However, given that 'redrocket' has external connectors, it's probable redcine-x WILL support external monitors. But through a k3 card? Who knows. That's probably an SDK implementation that Aja will have to take up later in the year.

REDCINE uses GPU to accelerate the GUI (and maybe even playback), so video output device via PCIe won't work nor as Greg mention it does not have video output.

You can purchase graphic card that can output to HDMI and monitor REDCINE screen on a HDMI capable display, or like how I do, use Matrox MXO and display REDCINE on HDSDI or HD analog component capable monitors.

Thanks for your answers, I hope In the future Aja and Red SDK team will work together to change this.

Talking through my hat, as I haven't tried this, but couldn't you use the KONA's extended desktop mode to put REDCINE on your SDI monitor?

Charles,
Can you explain what you mean?

Kona does support that monitoring solution but its pretty crappy. Refresh rates don't seem to match up very well. We toyed with it without success.

Is Red Cine/Rocket support (or lack of) the the Kona LHi also true ?

Red Rocket is a acceleration card, that will speed up processing of .r3d footage or play directly out via DVI or SDI. It could be looped through to the Kona, or played directly to your SDI / DVI monitor from RedRocket.

As far as extended desktop on the Kona, it is available, but in my opinion the quality wouldn't be there since you are effectively doing a screen capture of your desktop. Not ideal, but I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

best
Colin
