  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New RED DRIVE 320Gb problem

Hello, I´m on set right now and have a driver issue!

The camera is unable to format the drie, and takes forever.
I tried to format it on my Imac and then plug it back to the RED and it doesnt format it. I also run it torugh the disk utility verfier and it seems to be ok.

The other drive works fine.

Any recommendations? Or should i send back the drive?

The drive is definitely broken I have the same issues with mine, but in my case sending back the drive to RED didn't fix the problem. When i got it back it wasn't repaired at all.Maybe you will have better luck then me. My advice is to stick to the 16gb cards when it's posible and everything will be OK :)
 
The issue could also be a problem cable or the camera itself or the LEMO plug / camera interface on the drive.

Do other red drives work? Do you have any others to use?

Yes the other drive works perfect, and I cant use CF cards because I have to do 15+ minutes takes.
 
I've seen the same issue with 2 cameras in the last week or so.
Never seen this issue previously. Hmmm....

Using build 18. Restoring system defaults fixed the issue on the camera we were using.
 
Ok!!!!! I solved it!

Formated it in the disk utility tool in write zeros to disk mode, and now the RED detects it and formats it!!!

I had to do this recently to my RED Drives. But my problem was that they would randomly just stop recording. Would also sometimes get a random green frame.
 
Change all that can be change. New battery, new drive cable, unplug-replug all.
For me when drive semi-works and then hang, is poor sata-connection.

Now I had a codec error and the drive frooze on the camera.

Im sending it back to RED!
