Hey, everyone I am new here and was wondering if anyone can elaborate on the 2/3 fixed lens Scarlet complete kit for $3,750. Just curious if anyone knows what that might include or what they think it will probably include?

Thanks

I think it'll include: the brain (w/ fixed lens), display (probably 3" lcd), storage (probably CF module) and power (probably the grip). It is still unclear whether or not we will absolutely need the REDMOTE to operate the cam, and also, if it's included with the brains or not.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I'll bet if you purchase a kit, you can open it up, charge the battery, start shooting and get the data files into your NLE, without purchasing anything else. Sounds like quite a bargain.

But who knows what the specs will *really* be, or even what the price will be. It's supposed to be "better than we expected" on both though. Nobody knows, or at least the people who do know won't say. All the users are listening with baited breath,... problem is that so is Canon, Panasonic, Sony & Nikon.

Actually what Jim said, and I can't find the quote right now, is "no negative change to the price/performance ratio."

I hope that doesn't mean "the price is going up, but so is the performance so it's okay" but I'm afraid it does.

well it very well could mean that. i think what will happen is that they will offer a clear value over everything in the price range or even at twice the price.

i have a project to shoot "this month". i want better quality picture than the camera i own. there are two options, rent a camera or buy a good enough camera to last me a while. the ex3 is calling and i HATE to rent a camera. i think i can shoot it in two days. what if it takes longer? i have to keep renting. i'll be kicking myself if i buy an ex3 when the scarlet comes out. ok now i'm rambling and taking the thread off topic.

i'm excited though. actually, that's an understatement.

Thanks

Thanks guys for the info and ideas, I will waiting to see what it comes with. Hopefully ready to use out of the box :)

I wouldn't advise making any assumptions about the Scarlet being delivered at a particular time or the specs or even the price. Remember the Red mantra that Jim keeps reminding us of to little avail apparently. People hear what they want, I guess.

Things happen when it comes to manufacturing, that are beyond Red's control. In the meanwhile, the EX1 is a great little camera, easy to rent or even buy used (of course the EX3 too, but more $) and serves quality requirements for many projects -- and won't totally disintegrate in value with the appearance of the Scarlet. (The EX1 has even served as a B camera with the Red in some instances.)

And maybe you'd want to consider a Red rental -- there are some ludicrous bargains out there now.

I've said this a couple of times around red and scarlet users... but I am really hoping that I can put the fixed lens scarlet together in a way that I can leave it together, and have it in...say... a backpack that also has my macbook pro...my film studio in a bag.

After all, I'm a director not a cinematographer... when I do a job we use all the fancy schmancy gear... but when I run around doing my own thing I want to be as light, compact, portable, and uncomplicated as possible. I want my macbook pro and scarlet kit to just be a seriously pimped out version of the minidv cam and macbook that I started out with 7 years ago.

I would like to know if Scarlet 8x fixed zoom will come with a i/o module. I think it would be a "dream" if we could have at scarlet fix. the "vf", "i/o mod.", "battery" and "slot for card". This would be a real complete kit.

I think it's very unlikely it will come with the I/O module - it's probably going to be the Scarlet brain, the handle (which will probably contain a battery and maybe a CF writer), and either the viewfinder or a small LCD.

At more than $1,000 less than a Panasonic HPX (the cam that i was planning on buying before the scarlet happened) even with those basic features it would still be an AMAZINGLY good price.
