Are there any special considerations when shooting for output to the web? Should we shot 2K to minimize aliasing when down sampling? The end result will by 350 x 500 flash video embeded in a website.

Thanks.

Edgar

The only really special consideration when shooting for the web (once you have a camera that shoots progressive, which isn't hard to find these days) is eliminating noise, because low bit rate compression falls apart faster with a noisy image than in almost any other circumstance. To that end, light well, plan to crush your blacks a little, and shoot at the highest resolution you can, since you'll end up with a cleaner image after downscaling.

Might also consider shooting, compressing and delivering at lower frame rate if only use is for web. Make sure to use appropriate shutter angle/speed for motion blur.

We shoot 4K for web delivery to, amongst other reasons, maintain 35mm depth of field characteristics. We downsize ASAP in post (RedRushes) to keep the workflow efficient (currently to 720p). It looks amazing.

I thought I would post a follow up. We created a new website for our marketing company with 12 short video segments shot on the Red:

http://dtcs.net/

I edited in Premiere CS4, exported color-corrected shots in RedCine as 720p Cineform files and replaced the footage in After Effects. I then downsampled in AE and exported uncompressed AVIs. I brought the AVIs into Media Encoder and created FLVs (target 1 Mbps & max 1.5 Mbps). I brought these into Flash and created progressive swf wrappers.

I think it came out pretty good.
