hello red Guru's, I have a serious question that is killing me. Ok the Scarlet is coming out. One better than the Red one so to speak. What do you all think the boys of the Rebellion will do with the cost of the Red one if a FF35 scarlet is better (if it is)? Will it drop, or is it true that the Red one will have to be (ORDERED to be) replaced by the Epic x? no options... Im not sure if this is spoken about already, but I am dying to know what the word is. And just to let you guys know I have bashed several red doubters!!!! But can you please spill a little light on this for me GURU's

It's not better, just a different tool. The R1 has more flexibility in Frame rates, to name just one example.

Basically, the question has been asked (numerous times) and answered as well (also, surprisingly enough, numerous times.)

Disclaimer: I am no guru, ony a Red owner/user. My guess is Red will cease production of the Red 1 -- they will have plenty of trade-ins and there are plenty of cameras out there. I doubt they will be reselling the trade-ins, but who knows.

Yes, the Epic X is a special addition for Red 1 owners. More of Jim's generosity. Of course all the others are not and are up for those with the $ on the barrel head.

Perhaps the question would be less "killing" if you remember Jim's mantra, everything is subject to change. Anyway, whatever light anyone, including myself, spills on this, will be speculative and dim at best.

And don't forget Jim would rather just be "retired" and having fun shooting. He just needs the right camera to do it with -- and we are the beneficiaries of his brilliant obsession, his smarts and generosity.

In short I don't believe you'll find a guru or anyone else with an answer to your question -- but Mr. Jannard himself will provide an answer soon enough.

Or how about just saying what is .....
Those who own a Red One have one great camera, and have been having a ball using it.

It can have a chip upgrade or be traded for Epic X, or just used to make great movies.

I don't think the R1 will be discontinued. I think the design of the RED One will change. The Mysterium sensor will be discontinued, replaced with MX in the RED One. My opinion... Some people won't want or understand "modular" and the Red One will be great for them.

I my humble opinion, after Scarlet/Epic are released, the Red One will be seen as an obsolete system despite the ability to upgrade the sensor. It's value will drop by more than half for the body. Just watch. Why buy a Red One when you can buy a decked out Scarlet for less money? I'm talking 12 months from now when you're able to buy a Scarlet camera at Samy's & B&H.

Yeah same thing goes for every product ever made- progress is progress. R1 will either be reduced in price and/or will stop being made at some point in the future. That doesn't take away from the one's already out there. Just changes the options for new owners.

The market will decide One's fate ultimately. I think of it as the proof of concept development test bed for the new cameras. It will continue to be productive and valuable for a long time in the hands of its owners. But the new systems will have many more advantages for new buyers, not least of which is a better price/performance ratio.

I thank you all for you input for you are all guru's to me!!!!
