Sadly, I need to sell my barely used, low serial number Red. PM me with your offer. The package includes the camera, base production package, 3 batteries, 4 x 8 GB CF cards, back up CF circuit board, hard drive and cradle, EVF, LCD monitor, Lexar CF card reader, Arri 15mm base plate, and a hard pelican case with wheels (this case is cut out for most of the package- the batteries and a few accessories need to be placed in another case). The camera is at Red for updating right now, so I will wait until I get it back to post pictures. PM me with specific questions and offers.

transfer of ownership

transfer of ownership

I've had a few people ask about the ability to transfer ownership of a low serial number Red One in order to get ahead in line for an Epic or Scarlet.

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23017&highlight=transfer+ownership

Above is a link to the thread where Jim Jannard states that new buyer of a low serial number camera will indeed jump ahead on line for one of the newer models. Scroll down the page in the link above to Jannard's comments.

I hope this clarifies the issue.

Thanks,

Pam

yes , you can transfer the serial number to new owner AND it cost $$ ...

and to make it very clear !

remember it's not the serial number - it's the date the camera shipped for the place in line for epic /scarlet ... so a Red #3 that was shipped in 2009 will be behind Red #4000 that shipped 10/08 ...

here's how it works ( from my experience ... within past 30 days)

1.Original owner emails RED to approve transfer of ownership
request by new owner
2. New owner sends in the camera for an evaluation ($500). RED must be
notified prior to shipping the camera that it is being sent
3. If repairs are needed to bring camera to spec, then a quote will be given
to new owner
4. After the repair process is complete, new owner pays $750 for RED
Re-Certified Warranty (covers the camera for 90 days) and current owner name
is changed in Red system.
5. As a registered owner in Red system, the new owner will be eligible for
Epic and Scarlet upgrades

In response to the post above, the camera was delivered shortly after its number came up, not a year later as he forewarns.

Also, the camera was just (as in yesterday - June 10, 2009) completely updated.

The transfer costs that he mentioned seem to me like a small price to pay for someone who is in a rush to get an Epic or Scarlet.

Just to reiterate, here are the options for Red One owners once the new cameras are available:

What are a RED ONE owner’s upgrade options?
1. Keep your RED ONE and shoot great images. Get continual free firmware upgrades.
2. Keep your RED ONE and upgrade your sensor to Mysterium-X for $4500.
3. Trade your RED ONE in and receive $17,500 credit towards the purchase of an EPIC X S35 Private Reserve package, which is only available to RED ONE customers.
4. Trade your RED ONE in and receive $17,500 credit towards the purchase of an EPIC FF35 Pro Cinema "Brain".
5. Trade your RED ONE in and receive $17,500 credit towards the purchase of an EPIC 645 Pro "Brain".
6. Trade your RED ONE in and receive $17,500 credit towards the purchase of an EPIC 617 Pro "Brain".
7. Keep your RED ONE and purchase a Scarlet System (one time only) with a 12% discount.

And additionally,

8. Keep your RED ONE and buy an EPIC X S35 Private Reserve package at the $28K offering. The EPIC X .

Not only is a place in line determined by RED One serial number, but also by the original delivery date of that camera from the factory. I would think this Camera in the low 200's delivered about the time it was first available should be valuable to a few people. :)

Onwership transfer must also be performed through RED so that the new owner becomes the owner of record for all support and benefits.

as of last week (and, as they always say, that can change) only serial number is the consideration for your place in line for the epic/scarlet, not delivery date. for lenses it is different, but for the epic/scarlet, that is it. and you only need to do the $750 transfer of ownership. the other $500 is for them to check the camera and make sure it is all working correctly, plus they give you 90 days warranty extension. i know this because i just went through the process last week.

Not sure that the "only serial number" is accurate -- I believe the line forms according to when the camera was delivered. As you recall, Jim was very generous in allowing people to get their money together, so not all low numbers were taken when they were ready. I myself had to wait almost a month before various order glitches got sorted out -- but I still feel the delivery date is the "fair" way to do it -- and as far as I know it still stands.

But maybe this can be verified. It is very easy for people to hear what they want to hear.

Lennywood, could you cite where you got this information? It seems that Jim and team have spent a the last year or so establishing that it was when you paid for and accepted delivery of your camera that set your place in line NOT your serial number. I suppose if #351 and #202 were paid for and delivered on the same day- then the serial number could be the tie breaker. But please point to where Jim did a 180 on RED policy.

this is what was told to us when we went to do the ownership exchange at RED about a week ago: as of now, for buying an epic/scarlet, serial number was it. they also said that for the lenses, delivery date was taken into account. but they added that, as always, this could change.

Thanks for the info Lennywood. Good info.

According to another thread I read, it goes by the delivery date. I understand why RED would want to do this in terms of fairness. However, I have a 622 serial number but took delivery of the camera in October of 2008. If they go by delivery date, do I have to call RED to see how many cameras shipped before mine? Seems like serial number would be easier. I just want a definitive answer.

Not only is a place in line determined by RED One serial number, but also by the original delivery date of that camera from the factory. I would think this Camera in the low 200's delivered about the time it was first available should be valuable to a few people. :)

And I can just imagine when the new cameras are announced what will happen.

Getting a place in line will only apply to the Epic if I am correct. The Scarlet is first come first served. The links on this page don't work anymore so if someone has a reference to a Jim quote saying that the place in line is both Epic and Scarlet thats fine, but otherwise I wouldn't keep repeating it.

if you quote another reduser that is just silly. pick up the phone and call RED, get it from them. all i know is that just two weeks ago, while doing the transfer change they told us serial number is what counts for the epic. but that could change to include delivery date, but maybe not. they don't have a final decision yet.

Funny thing is, talking to people at RED, there are often different answers. So I go off of what Jim, Jarred and Deanan say. As of the last official statement, delivery date still plays a role in addition to serial number. This policy was put into place based on customer feedback and comments here in the forums. The topic is discussed in the Crucial Ordnance forum. RED One ownership also doesn't apply to priority for all things... Like the RED Rocket, it's first-come first-served, whether you own a camera or not. Which makes sense; lots of people out there who have need for R3D post workflow, but don't have the need of actually owning a camera.

Like all things RED, this can change at any moment. And the current policy may or may not apply to EPIC upgrades, etc.. They may go entirely off serial number, and there is a certain logic to doing that. For now, all we can do is speculate while we wait for the details.

I can't find where, but I remember I asked Jim about this before.
He said R1 owners get first stab at them.
