Red cannot handle strobes. You can see the split frame effect in that video. Unless some one can say of successful way to do strobes, I gave up in filming strobes. Which is quite unfortunate. But I guess every camera has its own limitations, and Red one is that one.
Can't handle strobes - true. But when you have Lightning Strikes you can make the "flash" duration longer and pretty much eliminate the rolling shutter artifacts.
Yes it is problematic in this video. Your gaffer should have kept his finger on the button a little longer instead of fast pops on the flash trigger.
Otherwise, nice job.
Actually made a test with L-strike and couldn't get it to work. This was of course build 15 and plain shutter.
That's good news. Where can I find those lights,or rent? Probably they are too powerful to mimic flash photography right?
Thanks.
Lightning Strikes makes a system called Paparazzi flashes. These are great for a "flash photography" effect. But same rule holds true. Don't "pop" them too fast. A slightly longer duration will minimize the rolling shutter artifacting.
First yes I knew there would be some Artifacts from the rolling shutter. I had seen this Footage with the Split Frame effect, Something I've run into before...

I had Shot 2nd Unit on a Music video with Lots of DSLR Flashes and all of them where fine.
Thanks, So with this paparazzi flashes you can get the flash effect on a Red one, right? That is pretty good. Also could you guys help me find their website. I just can't find it in google.
Thanks.
As fine you mean, no split frame? And if so could you tell us the model and settings?
Thank you.

For a Music Video I felt that would be fine.

We used a 75k Lighting Strike in the BG off of Scaffolding. We never had a problem with it. Although you almost never see it in the Video.
The Foreground Flashes where with 5k Strobes. I had talked to another DP about these and he had no problem with them on RED... But of course In my situation The Strobes where almost the only thing lighting the talent with a 4k Back light... he had a 4k key. So I feel it was much more noticeable in our Situation.
The question I ask is more ascetic, is whether or not it works in this video? Would it have been better had I not had any lightning at all?
