So the Pilots have their builds and the tests have started to come in.. here is the thread of all threads to discuss what they are seeing.

I'm extremely jealous of this! (My Red is out). I'd love to see the following from any of the pilots: a setup shot in low light Tungsten on Build 18, then the EXACT same setup and framing on this special build, otherwise it's hard to tell the difference.

hey Sean, that is what I will be setting up. But, it will have to wait until Monday...

That's lookin pretty good. I'm eager to test, but waiting for my camera to come back from RED... Bad timing on doing the audio board upgrade. :)

And yeah, I want to do some comparisons between the previous build 18 too.

Am just back from a concert shoot, v. low light, tungsten lamps, ISO 600, f 1.4.

Wow.

I am impressed.

The guys face's exposure was in the lower thirds.

Wow Martin, that does look clean. Is it consistent or are there things to trip it up? Mighty brave of you, BTW, to test it on a live gig! Mighty brave...

On a side note, are there any bands in Northern Europe that aren't heavy metal?

Nope, wasn't a gig. Just as good excuse to see my life's first death metal concert.

No major trip-ups. The display in RedSpace was black and white, which very well might've been my mistake.

Nope, northern Europe has indeed only heavy metal. Like A-ha, Røyksopp and first and foremost Bobbysocks.

Thanks guys. Keep the feedback coming.

Graeme

what was your white balance set at Martin?
and thanks for testing

I'm not sure everyone quite gets the significance of this new color science yet. I think it is likely to be at least as important as Build 16 was for overall image quality improvement.

Now prove me wrong.

Jim

Lower noise, especially under tungsten light, more accurate colors, especially with REC709 output to a monitor.

Graeme

So ill be doing a shoot all weekend 4 different set ups.
mostly tungsten lit..
Ill post the results as soon as I am done.. I will also test B18 vs this new beta.. same shot.

now... for the current testers.. any issues with post as of right now?
any weird audio bugs like 18? please post your bug findings

Thanks Zakaree. Also, forgot to add that the kelvin temperature is also more finely calibrated, which should provide much greater accuracy in setting the white balance numerically to a light source.

Graeme

Very pretty.
I wonder how it overcomes the blue weakness under tungsten?
We are possibly looking at similar performance to daylight..

I gave the magic pixies blue cupcakes made with blue food coloring, and hence they can do blue better. And if you believe that....

Actually, that's wrong, because it's all colors that are better, not just blues. It's just there you can see the benefit more clearly.

Graeme

Oh Baby, this is big! Can't wait to employ these improvements in multi-cam live shooting! The war on noise is ongoing and while I always win, sounds like this will make my life a whole lot easier!

Thanks Red, you all ROCK!
