Hi, we would be looking for a LCD monitor that works with the hdmi connection of the RED for under 200 usd. it would just be for the director, so color and sharpness aren't that important.

anyone got any tested and proven possibilities?

cheers, Xax

Tips on a cheap and small field monitor going from the HDMI port for the director? Cheapest option.

I've had great luck with the Samsung Syncmaster 953BW

Supposedly 2MS response time, 8000:1 contrast ratio so they say...

But it works great and I think truly amazing that we've come to a point where a $165.00 CDN HD monitor (under $150 US) is readily available. I use an HDMI to DVI cable and im impressed with the image even though I'm used to the Panasonic BTLH1700W. Great for corporate work or a client monitor.

Blacks aren't very adjustable (just contrast/brightness and some overall and I've found the monitor looks better in brighter environments. In a dim environment where you can really see into the shadows the image is noisier (with less adjustable blacks) than the Panasonic (realizing the RED's 720P output isn't that clean to begin with). But overall very happy for the price. I realize often in this business you pay 3x the price for 20% better but having one in the kit seems like a no brainer for most.

Now if I could only find a tilting VESA 5/8" Spud mount that isn't more $$ than the monitor:-)

This thread interests me...

Is there a 1:1 mode on these two screens or does it interpolate?

Those references are hard to find in France... Would you say this one ( http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00076684.html ) performs as well and is compatible with the red?

Thanks for the tips...
