Hello.. today a cold shiver suddenly crawled down my back when I realized the Epic Reward cost of 28K might be the price already after the RED credit?
so its really 45k minus 17k? The io module, cf module and battery thing are worth 17k? please someone tell me im wrong quick! :S

I think you are very wrong. . . but, then again, maybe I am.

no, it's $10,500 plus tradein of Red body. And that's as of the last announcement. Who knows, maybe it'll get better.

Isn't the EPIC X the special package for the RED ONE trade in?

I believe they put this package together specifically for this reason. It includes the basic modules to replicate an R1, but with higher resolution, more latitude and the "EPIC" way of life, for $10,500 plus your R1.

More than fair in my opinion.

If you want more, you have to pay for it. I'll happily take an EPIC X for $10.5k and give thanks, along with my R1!

anyvody who does not think this is the best deal ever has not bought a broadcast camera That is out done by next years model.

try and get sony or panny to do this.

I know this was not quite the topic, just sayin is all

It´s fantastic deal, but I don´t count on the 10.5 K beeing "it", we would need some faster storage for the extra data rates for starters... It´s gonna cost, luckily the RED ONE was a good investment for me and I will trade in for Epic-X at the first possible opportunity!

from what i recall the EPIC X is only for Redone owners ..you do not have to trade in your Redone to buy the special Epic X package ...

I've been thinking about this lately.....

Most electronic things get smaller, lighter and cheaper with better specs as they evolve.

Take the Sony B4 F23, a $150k camera that is being replaced (or should I say made obsolete) with that new B4 HDCAM SR camcorder (forgot the number) coming later this year which will retail for $80k (that's less then the F900 went for) smaller, lighter and cheaper with better specs.

But what if Sony said this new smaller, lighter camera with better specs was $80k MORE then the F23 but everyone who buys one at $230k can turn in their F23 for full $150k credit, that would keep the F23 customers happy but new buyers would balk at the marketing gimmick and Sony would have to lower the price to $80k or so to get new people buying, which would upset the F23 turn-in people who would say "hey I could've just kept my F23 and bought the new one at the $80k price and had 2 cameras"...........

There is one obvious solution that would keep everybody happy.

I'm sure it's been asked before, does Red really want 5000 R1's back? Or would they rather sell 5000 sensor upgrades?

What if there was one more option..... like for existing R1 owners $15k gets you the Epic X and sensor upgrade for R1..... who would be down for that?

I think it will be like Jim said, it will be good to own a R1.

this is so cool.. buying this RED has been the most rewarding experiences of my consumer life since the C64 which just wouldnt die for decades lol

"The RED ONE owner, present and future, is exclusive in their ability to participate in the program and has two options towards upgrading to EPIC X. One, is to trade in his/her RED ONE, receive a one-time $17.5K credit, and pay an additional $10.5K and receive an EPIC X. The other option is to keep ownership of one's RED ONE and pay $28K for the EPIC X package."........................

.......The EPIC X S35 Private Reserve package is ONLY available to RED ONE owners.
