  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

fcp3....according to AppleInsider

FCP has the worst timeline navigation I ever saw. Avid DS has the best one... (as I know and used) Even color has a better timeline navigation than FCP.

This is incredible for an editing software...

If anyone knows a way around this, I would LOVE to know.

Hey Jim,
We're just wrapping color on a musical feature that was shot multicam with long takes (20-40 min). Our approach was to redrush quicktimes with camera grading applied, edit with multiclip; then once cut is locked media manage the project, use existing media, uncheck the box to include non-active multiclip angles, replace qt's with R3d's in clipfinder conform, send to color, fix with color fixer, and grade!

A bit winding of a workflow i know (with upto 3 third party software solutions!) but it works!

Hi Thom,
I'd like to talk to you about this as I couldn't get that workflow to function. When you send ANY multiclip timeline to Color, original or clipfinder-replaced, doesn't it only include the first two cameras?
How many cameras we're in your multiclip?

Love to hear more, thanks for your post.

We had 3 cameras per show but there were 4 or 5 shows that were then included in the multiclips. Yeah rendering multiclips from Color is terrible, which is why we:
1. did all of our editing with the multiclips
2. collapsed the multiclips to streamline playback, editing, rendering, etc
(and here's the important part)
3. Media Managed the timelines once we had picture lock, essentially destroying any link to the original multiclips, and thus fooling color into reading our multiclip timeline like it was reading any traditional single camera or A/B timeline.

Hope that helps.
