  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This doesn't seem like a great deal, especially if you're not from the States and still have to pay Sales Tax (VAT) on it! You can buy everything here new for about $32770 (excl sales tax) direct from Red and others if you buy the Base Production Pack, rather than the individual components of the BPP and the lens and body come with caps.

Even if you are within the U.S. you would only pay tax if you took delivery within California. If you have it sent to you in any other state then there is no tax.

Loophole will probably close soon but I think it's still the case.

In fairness, there clearly is some value in the lower serial number body compared to buying new. (depending on when it was delivered.)

That said...

Most folks would want the larger LCD, and given that the 18-50's are regularly going for a couple of thousand below list, and the fact that nobody, I mean nobody buys the production pack components individually (if they going to buy them all), and that most of us in CA would qualify for the considerably lower production tax rate, it's hard not to agree with Eric's point.

I also think the availability of element technica accessories that will transition to Epic make charging a premium over brand new Red components (that may not) seem to be pretty optimistic.

However, this could be a good fit for the right buyer.

yeah, that seems a little sneaky. adding all the components of the base production pack as individuals, charging 9% tax even though they are in texas, where they did not pay tax, and then make it look like they are discounting. pretty sneaky.

i think if you are going to charge a premium for the not-so-low serial number, say so, but don't be sneaky.

True for tax if in California. UNLESS you had it delivered on an Indian Reservation. (Please dont mail stuff to my house). If its on Tribal Trust land you dont pay state or sales tax.

I know folks who get their Harley's and cars delivered to the Reservations, and they drive the dealer back to the lot after they sign papers at the rez.
