  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Requesting FF720p on 3K scarlets

Could you imagine trying to get it smaller than a scaled RAW, and making it some cheap 4:1:1 video?

I don't understand why you need 720p RGB recording. You can already shoot RAW up to 120 FPS and you could always hook up a monitor if you need live output.

I'd say stick to RAW or shoot 1080p RGB.

You can buy a complete Flip "UltraHD" camcorder for $200 that records 720p and it fits in your pocket and super easy & quick to use. I think there are some ND filters that cost more than this whole camera. If the actors perform better to a mattebox, well I think nothing stops you from putting a mattebox in front of it...

Dude, I'll shoot footage at 3K RAW just as much as the next guy but you missed my point completely.

Now I have an image of a flip with a mattebox ... thats so funny that the image won't leave my mind!
But as I stated earlier, the whole point was to do it all with one camera, or I get a GH1 as backup.

Please everybody - READ POST 1 as I'm getting repeated questions

Sure I want to shoot my short films in 3K RAW just like every other indi filmmaker,
but I would prefer not to own another camera for sketchpad shooting.

If you are taping a casting session or a reading for a feature or working out a rough video storyboard for a fight sequence,
you don't want debayering or any post production issues.

The 3K scarlet will be a great tool for indi filmmakers, and having the ability to use it for sketchpad shooting at RGB FF720p or FF420p is not that much extra circuitry over FF1080p (which is on the specs) but it speeds up your post time and therefore time away from your actors.
