We are considering purchasing the eSATA cable that allows us to download footage off the Red drive via eSATA (LEMO to eSATA) sold here:

Currently we have an eSATA express card for our Macbook Pro that has two eSATA ports on it. I am wondering if connecting the Red drive to one of those eSATA ports and my external hard drive to the other eSATA port will be faster than going firewire 800 out of the Red drive to eSATA in on my external hard drive. I'm not sure if using both eSATA ports on the express card slows it down...

When it comes to this stuff I really don't know that much. Sorry if I am bad at explaining it! If anyone has any ideas let me know!

Thanks!

Thanks Alexis - any idea on how much more speed we should see?

Here's a review from another thread in the accessories forum

Love the eSATA to RedDrive cable. I actually ran a grading session today on Scratch right from the RedDrive and it worked like a champ.

I haven't done a proper benchmark but it seems about twice as fast as the FW800 tap. Awesome, highly recommended.

We also have these cables available at our retail location in Hollywood.

Thanks man, looks like I may have to give it a go! The comparative slowness of the fw800 didn't bother me until we enabled the esata on the express port on our macs for backing up-
