I'm not sure if I understand Jarrod's emoticons in the thread relating to Peter's recent experience with the Red Primes. Does anyone know whether they have built-in IR protection or not? We're about to pop for some new filters and it would be great to know this ahead of time.

Thanks in advance.

Nick.

Hey Nick, the Primes do have an IR coating on them to help reduce IR contamination but it will not be as effective in extreme situations as the dedicated IR-type ND's.

Absorptive or reflective? Because stacking multiple IR reflectors is a recipe for trouble....

I have the Formatt IRND set, hope they are compatible!

Thanks for the info.

Paul

It will be fine. Pretty much all modern lenses have a bit of IR coating in them.
