We have been working on a collection of visual effects elements all shot on the Red for VideoCopilot.net. For any post vfx people here there are some must have elements in this collection called Action Essentials 2... teaser below.

Here is a BTS pic that shows the courage and valor the Red cameras displayed during this most dangerous shoot. The elements will be available in 2k res and pre keyed.

Yea it's a great deal. 250 elements at 2k for $250. $1 per shot....

I understand what you're saying, but Red is a camera. It does not possess human emotions or traits such as "courage" or "valor." I would say that whoever owned the Red cameras displayed a lot of trust, and hopefully had a lot of insurance.

can't wait!!

but why not 4K?

I think they went with 2K for a few reasons.

1. Most people that buy videocopilot products are amateurs just beginning to learn After Effects. With that in mind they probably don't have computers that can process 4K footage that well.

2. Many of the shots they did were high speed.

3. I think they did shoot 4K for a majority of the effects, but downrezzed to 2k for #1 reasons. Plus if everything was 4k, it'd probably be a 20 disc set.

Yea Lots of muzzle flashes and bullet hits. Lots of explosions and fire balls shot both at night and day. It will be out in June, not sure of exact date, check videocopilot.net for updates.

I think 2k is overkill for most elements. How often do you need a bullet hitting a windshield full frame at 2k. Most often your going to shrink these down to be a realistic size in your shot.

agreed, 4k would be neat but is not needed at all. Certainly not for things like bullet hits... 3k would be nice for the bigger elements like explosion balls..
Anyway, I would recommend shooting the tall explosion balls sideways for increased resolution and make sure they don't get cropped. I hate cropped FX elements, makes compositing a real pain.

If it is out soon enough we may purchase your product instead of going out and shooting those elements as planned...

Nice work...

Amariah, yes we did shoot some explosions sideways, here is a pic of the camera on it's side with the Ruby lens at 14mm shooting a 60' explosion that must have set off some seismic sensors somewhere.

That vfx elements collection is finally out. Here is that pic of the camera sideways with the Ruby lens.

Always like the VC stuff, I'll be getting the 720 version, at 99$ it's a no brainer. :001_tt1:

They offer DL for all the rest of their stuff but this one is almost 40gigs for the 2k. It's just too big.

I just used a few of the elements in a pretty big movie that I will mention when it comes out.

I think mine shipped today. Looking forward to it. Andrew does a great job.

Downloading would be good for single elements, so when you're in a crunch to get a shot done, and you've paid for the disk, you can go select which elements to download... it's not going to be 40gigs for a couple of elements...
