Hi guys, right now im searching an in-between camera between my hopefully futre 2/3 cinema RED Scarlet and my crappy JVC GY-DV500u. Since we arent sure of the releast date of the scarlet and it wont probly be before FALL 2009. I want a camera that i will use this summer to pratice, to shoot since i just love filming and to pratice angles, depth of fields, locations, etc. Since im keeping my money for scarlet ( Actully i need to start making money since im just out of college :P ), I intend selling my old camera with its many many accessories and using part of this money for this in-between camera that im willing to pay around 800-1000$. Obvisouly, i want it to do 1080p and have ALOT of DOP, what im seing now is that most comsummer hdd hd camcorders dont have a focus ring to play with. On the other hand theres so new photography cameras that can do so full hd 1080p movie... So if any 1 can help on this on, it would be GREATLY appreciated

Please clarify? 1080p and DOF for $800-$1000? Or that's how much extra on top of selling your JVC you are willing to spend? What's total budget in other words?

Right now, 1000$ would be it, but i could go for a maximum of 1500$ Since i want to save for scarlet, I just dont want to get ripp of by Bestbuy bullsh!t salesman... Right now, what i found was theres too, first is this one : http://www.today-reviews.com/screenshot/2009/03/image.png witch has a focus, realy rare for consummer cameras and the second is the canonRebel t1i that can do full hd 1080p videos....

Obvisouly, i want it to do 1080p and have ALOT of DOP.

Unfortunately DOPs don't come free with most cameras ...did you mean DOF (depth of field)? And did you mean little DOF (shallow focus) as opposed to lots of DOF (deep focus)? If you do want a shallow focus (like most film makers do) then you'll be wanting a camera with a larger sensor - unfortunately most cheaper cameras have 1/3rd inch sensors so you're always struggling to get a nice shallow DOF. It's probably out of your price range even second hand but the Sony EX1 has a 1/2 inch sensor which helps make things shallower but obviously the Scarlet will answer all your dreams (even the 2/3rd inch one will have noticeably less DOF than most prosumer cameras out there). Good luck!
