Hello;
I am shopping for a S-16 zoom lens for the Red. I will shoot at 2K resolution. I would like a zoom range as wide angle as possible and the lens with the least distortion, breathing, flaring or other related image problems. I have used the 10-100 Zeiss zoom with 16mm and would really like to use it with the Red. I like the blue color cast of Zeiss. I also am on a tight budget. Any suggestions?

You should only need standard 16mm lenses for 2K not S16mm (They cost more as they are often newer or converted lenses). The Zeiss 10-100mm is your best bet for a wide range and decent image. Make sure you get the faster version (T2) and not the T2.8. Gives you more in darker situations but is generally a better lens. You could get the 2X extender if you think you might need upto 200mm though of course you are effected the quality of image, but it's a cheap way to do it.

Just letting you know, yesterday I saw that there is a Zeiss 2x extender on eBay specifically for the 10-100 if your interested.

As far as 2K lenses goes, there are quite a few options, not too many zooms, mostly primes. The Zeiss is one of the best ones I know of. After that you've got some Canon zooms that are pretty good, can't remember what their ranges were. Beyond that there's the usual selection of Angenieux and a Cooke here and there but I've always heard that the Zeiss and the Canon zooms were the best. Primes are where it's at on 16/S16, lots of neat prime options, granted you roughly times them by 2x to get their 35mm equivialent, but it's fun to say you're filming with a 5mm lens! =)

My partner wants to sell one of his zooms either a Canon 11.5-138 T2.5 or the Canon 11-165 T2.7

Also Angenieux 7-81 HR is a great zoom lens, if you can find and afford one.

I am intersted in finding a zoom lens for the Red one can anyone help? I know I will also need a zoom motor and control maybe a matte box I am used to using ENG lenses this is a new world to me.
