  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What computer Spec do I need.

Snow Leopard has a bunch of features which a substantially rewritten Final Cut Pro could take significant advantage of. We probably will see such a major upgrade, the question is whether it will be with this upgrade cycle or with the next one.

While I am hoping that a new FCS comes out soon, I am also hoping the next version will be 64-bit. Since FCP is a Carbon application, and you cannot make 64-bit Carbon applications, it means there must be a massive recode of Final Cut in order to get the 64-bit version out (same reason we wont be seeing a 64-bit version of Photoshop anytime soon). Let's just hope Apple is faster than Adobe.

I was told that ANY Mac Pro would be more powerful than the previous generation IMAC.I am now considering older Mac pro dual VS. a previous generation IMAC. I have a 24 inch dell already. (economy)

I was editing a project on a previous gen Mac Pro with 2 GB and experienced a lot of slow-down when working with 2K proxies in the timeline (not my preferred workflow) even at low-res half frame-rate playback. Then I took the project home to colour-grade and my 24" iMac with 4 GB and had no problem on dynamic and full frame-rate. I usually work with 1080p ProRes 422 footage and my trusty iMac speeds through it as if it were DV.

If you're on a tight budget, an iMac is great. Hire a pro system when you need it, because if you need it you'll be being paid enough to warrant the cost.

If Apple really releases FCS3 at WWDC, that could change things again.

Not to rain on anybody's parade but there is absolutely no precedent for Apple releasing video software at a developer's convention. That doesn't mean it could never happen but it is neither likely nor logical.

Sit back and watch. Updates to FCS and a new editing app for iPhone, which will now have video recording.

How do I know this? My cousin is Steve Job's pedicurist. She was right about Nehalem, she was right about no cut and paste for iPhone, she'll be right about this:)
