If we use M proxies to edit in FCP and then send to Color, will Color use the original r3d file data or do we have to reconform to Native before sending?

I am still a little unsure on this workflow. If I edit with M Proxies in FCP from the r3d files shot as 4k 16x9, will Color use the original r3d file data for CC ? I am also resizing the clips in the Color Geometry Room to 2k. Or, do I have to reconform in FCP to Native 2K and then send to Color so it uses using the4k r3d file data?

Gary

you're on the right track. edit using proxies. send to color. resize the project in Color's project settings tab to 2k and grade. Keep in mind at some point before render run the colorfixer application form http://www.daun.ch/software/ It will address the looping error. Render and send back to FCP...

cheers

Thanx Joyfool. So it does use the original 4k data from r3d? I thought I have seen workflows posted by people saying it needs to reconform when using proxies. Such as using Clipfinder to reconform to Native files.

any size proxy will give you access to the metadata (red room) within color and allow you to resize to max 2k.

Color uses the original r3d data at half debayer when you send it a proxy fcp sequence.

Yes that is true. Hence the trip from 4k to 2k. It's clearly impossible to downsample on the fly. I believe Graeme commented on this limitation....

I suspect the L&T is also using a half debayer? no? Since it just wraps the R3D files in QT but outputs 2k res. There doesn't seem to be any crunching to get to 2k - file size stays the same so I think it would be limited by debayering...

Yes, L&T is also using a half debayer at this time.
