hi People

I'm in a bad place.

Had an external drive start misbehaving and fear it has corrupted a days worth of shots. We had 2x 16GB cards downloading to a MACBook Pro and the files were looking good and playing fine but when copied and viewed on the backup (which sort of became the only) drive all went bad. Disk warrior got the drive back on it's feet but the proxies now have a lot of frames that look like those attached and the R3D files are crashing both redcine and redalert.

argggggh...... bad place....

any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Short story is that's corrupted wavelet information; they're pretty much unrecoverable, unless RED has some secret sauce.

You mentioned the backup drive is the one causing issues; have you got another copy of the footage somewhere?

Yeah, it's corrupted footage I'm afraid. Unfortunately you'll just have to edit around it, or you might be able to get away with creating a blend of the frames either side and replacing the corrupted frame with that.

I've got a music video coming up that I really hope this doesn't happen to my footage. Not for fear of losing footage, but if the band sees frames like this, they'll want the whole video to look like it.

We can try a recovery pass here but since it's footage on media that was not recorded on the camera it's hard to say what will be recovered.

I've seen something like this but without the crazy color.

Could be problem with the CF cards too, this looks like a lot of other footage with the same artefacts.

The first post points out that this was from a recovered backup drive. The recovery software piecing things back together is probably the problem here.
