  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just amazing.... 120fps

well. looks nice, but i cannot find anywhere that this was 120 fps. for me it looks like at least 500 fps. so, no red involved...except... well... maybe new prototype?

do you have more info about it?

Weird, that wiki said that it was filmed primarily on HVX's and VX1000's. Most of that looked a hell of a lot slower than 60P.

In the article description it says "Red Skate Camera" follow the link and some info about what these guys have up to with red camera.

Red Skate Camera

Impressive a video of demonstration with this scene of skateboard filmed in HD. A shooting in slow fox trot motion by the production Opus particularly interesting Magnum because it uses the famous Red camera.

I agree it does look much slower than 120fps, my assumption is it was further time stretched !!!!
I will try write t these guys and see if anything comes back?

Possible Spoiler ahead. Don't read this if you haven't watched the video yet.

Doesn't look like RED footage to me, but what's interesting is that content is king. Although there were cool shots in the RED Skater video, the Spike Jones video was far more interesting. I was getting ready to sell it off as yet another video of cool skateboard tricks in really slow mo, but then the guy goes through the wall and I was like, okay...that's cool. Great video. If it was shot on the HVX with a 35mm adapter, it holds it's own because of the content.

i guess those skaters accepted to put their lives at risk just because it was Spike Jonze ... fun to think what the reactions could be if i was proposing the same idea to a production house ... :)

It was all shot on the phantom. The wiki is referring to the movie and not the intro sequence which is what people are talking about with the blowing up walls and stuff.

It was shot, in fact on film.

I have the documentary and there is significant behind the scenes footage of Spike using film cameras.

They spoke about shooting most at 300 fps and a few other cameras running at 150-200 fps.

No Red was used in the entire film. Skating was all vx1000 with intermittent HVX 60p clips as b-roll and slomo.

I am a skateboard filmer myself and was lucky enough to go to the premiere. When Koston burst through the wall, the theater went berserk.
