I have a dilema I need $25,000 or rental insurance coverage for 3 days. I'm shooting a short next week and have to rent some lights ETC. the rental for the weekend is costing me less than $300. but I need insurance, I companay I usually rent insurance from for these short term short notice things is no longer arround. The other company I use AE insurance in Boston quoted me $500 which is almost twice what I'm paying to rent the gear for 3 days.
Just wondering if anyone out there knows any production copanies that rent out their covarage for a reasonable amount. I need 3 days rental covarage for the weekend of may 8,9,10th.
I don't need liability, just need to have the equipment Im renting covered.
Thanks

it's possible that if this is a fun shoot ( you're not getting paid , no intent to make profit , you are not telling actors they get a % of $$ profit etc.) your home owners insurance policy might cover it ...ask your agent .. and about exclusions ( many will NOT cover if a person drops a item )

Your probably not going to find it for much cheaper. When I talked to Kat at Heffernan Insurance (buymyinsurancenow.com), she said that just buying short term rental insurance is by far the most expensive insurance you can buy. This is the way they view it. If you are only getting short term rental insurance, and don't have a policy with them already for your own gear, then they think that most likely you are not a professional and the equipment has a greater chance of getting broken.

What I suggest is maybe looking into getting year long rental insurance. It probably costs about the same and you get the added benefit that if you rent something else this year, it's already covered! I know that if you already have equipment insurance with them, $25k would only be $50. I have $85k of my gear with them, and when I went to rent $65k of extra gear it was only $50 (which is pretty good!)

if you don't mind, how much are you paying? I need a quote so I'm also needing insurance for short term or year long?

The lady you spoke to is: Kat. I'll give them a call.

thanks.

I read the Term and Conditions and did you see this:

ADMINISTRATIVE FEE

I agree and understand that I am being charged a minimum and non-refundable $75 Administrative Fee for administrative services provided by Heffernan Insurance Brokers or www.buymyinsurancenow.com for all new and/or renewal policies.

What's up with that?

I think I am paying about $1k for $85k worth of gear. To add a year's worth of rental insurance ($65k) was going to be around $750 I think.

Something else to know, is if you are looking for liability insurance and tend to be a contractor most of the time (aka: there is normally other production insurance on most shoots your on), then they have a liability program which is far cheaper than normal production insurance.

In my possession, I own about 20k of gear and I would rent the rest - 40K of Rental. Would you advice me to get a basic coverage then when shooting - upgrade to a Rental equipment endorsement coverage...say for the 40k or whatever I need? You're saying that would be best and cheaper?

Does this cover building coverage, most place require 1 mill of coverage? Just making sure.

thanks for all suggestions.
