  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ultimate ONSET and 4k editing laptop!

not loud at all..and not hot!!

BTW I have NEVER worked on a machine this fast outside a desktop..the user interface speed in CS4 Premiere 4.1 is BLAZING fast....I am editing RAW right now for the first time since build 4.1 on a professional project and am honestly blown away with the interface speed and playback response. Best I've seen in Premiere ever.

for the first time it feels like Premiere is not "behind the ball" every time I click or do anything in the Interface.

sweet

are you using an early release of the Adobe/Red plugin that accesses the camera metadata? if so what are your impressions?

Yes I have been working close with Adobe on this plugin over the past few months..things are progressing very well. It works now and works well I am happy to say.

Goto HP.com..it's an EliteBook 8730w just spec it and order

Do you think we'll be seeing a download of the plugin before the release of Vegas Pro 9?

anybody have experience with the SAGER and Prostar models?

All I can say guys is that this HP laptop has been a TOTAL game changer for me..for the first time I am TOTALY happy working on this machine with REDCODE and CS4..it's THAT fast and responsive....I have been waiting for YEARS for this..the bastards with stills cameras have had it for years...now it's us motion guys turn!!

I'm needless to say "lovin it"

it's like total mobile freedom....and when you WANT 2k in realtime simply attach the hard disk to a 16core HP and BINGO you have THEATRICAL level quality playback! WOW.

I was preaching this speaking for ADOBE at NAB ....but now I'm living it....good time to be alive in the motion world!

about 2hours? about like any standard laptop...nothing special..can't wait for longer power systems!

Quad core 2.5ghz 8gigs ram 320gig 7200rpm drive quadro
Graphics card 3700 nvidia. Dreamcolor screen(what a dream it is)
Esata FireWire USB express slot x2

No joke this machine is as fast as my last workstation.

All the post work I do I can now do it on the road or at a
Clients desk.

This is sick.

Did you have to phone them up to get that configuration? HP UK only have a 2GHz quad core. And none of them seem to have two Express slots.

Also, if you don't mind saying, how much did you pay for each laptop (excluding sales tax and delivery)?

Thanks
Eric

I got an extra 4GB of ram though and installed it myself..very easy. even a baby could do it.

funny thing...the usb is faster then any usb port on other machines. the wifi is FASTER then other wifi..seems the stuffed this thing with the fastest of current gen I/O too...

A few questions if you have the time

What OS are you running? XP 64bit?
Is there a 64bit OS version of Premiere Pro?
Where did you get the additional memory?

vista 64 with all interface crap turned off for speed - very stable
not sure if PPro is 64 yet
Memory from HP

You guys may want to checkout the HP EliteBook 8730w with the DREAMCOLOR screen, 8gigs of RAM and a QUADCORE cpu for your onset and away-from-home machine for R3D files. Just got 2 of them and they are monsters!

REDCINE: 1/2 in realtime!
Premiere cs4: almost realtime in 1/4 res, thats 1k editing away from home! it drops just a few frames ..very usable...1/8 it never drops

It has ESATA that's fast as hell for editing from a ESATA drive, and the best part is using the FIREWIRE and ESATA to copy so the buss does not get overloaded.

Dreamcolor screen totally ROCKS..I am so sold on this laptop screen that I would never go back to a standard screen. they are that amazing. pure, bright, uniform. nuff said. gotta see one to get an idea of what your missing on a standard LCD.

Ok, just wanted to let the folks know since before this I was on a Dell and could not even get realtime at 1/4 in RedCine.

:yikes:
Are you doing color correcting/grading with this machine? How?

What do you mean? Can you elaborate?

Is there a matte option or is it available only in glossy?
