Hey guys, I was wondering if for build 19 there might be a chance to have the option to chose the gamma space and color space separately? This is why I ask. I hate shooting in REDSpace because the gamma, I feel, is boosted too high. So I shoot in Rec709 because the gamma looks better and I seem to underexpose less. However, when I go to render footage out in post, if I stay on Rec709 for the colorspace, the colors look horrible. So what I have been doing is selecting Rec709 for the gamma and REDSpace for the color space. However, it would be nice if in camera we could select the color space AND the gamma space instead of both of them lumped in together. That way I could more accurately see colors and so could the client...

There shouldn't be any problems with separating the two. If it can be done in RedCine or RedAlert, then it should be possible in camera. The camera just needs to know how to do the processing. What they could do is just make it another view setting (AKA: to go along with the RAW, Rec709 and RedSpace settings in the view menu) and call it Red709. They could also do Rec709 color space with RedSpace gamma, but I am not sure any one would use it.

Stuart @ Red...can this be done?

I don't shoot with a RED yet. But how hard can it be to learn to get the correct exposure ... can't we do tests that conclude ... if I see this much light (with this light meter) ... then at this iris ... with this lens... this much will be hitting the sensor .... and my result ... will be that much?

Yes, you can use a light meter (I do), but I also use the on camera meters (such as False Color) to help me expose, and those are calibrated to the color space. So while this is about the easiest camera I've ever used to expose on, it could be better.

Now if we can just get Apple to fix Log and Transfer so it sees colorspace changes done in REDAlert.

Doesn't Log & Transfer have the ability to reference an RLX preset? I can see them, make them come up in the pulldown, and it seems to apply...
I thought it was pretty slick, myself.
Cheers,
Harry

Wait till you get your hands on one. In my experience: if you take it easy it's not hard; once you get into all possibilities for absolute perfection and you get theoretical about it, you're in a world of trouble
