Any way I can extend the one year warranty on the Red One? Or perhaps find another way to protect the thing?

Wow. Seems kind of risky to buy a $17,500 camera body with only one year of warranty.

Well, it's risky because if I encounter a malfunction later than a year from now, I'm screwed. I've usually held at least a two year extended warranty on all my cameras.

Yeah, but insurance won't cover a technical malfunction will it?

True, but repair prices can get pretty steep. But, I guess it's the price you pay for Red.

True. Any word of an extended warranty being available anytime soon?

Cinewalt,

What insurance company do you use? Also, does it cover physical damage and hardware malfunctions?

Thanks Cinewalt. It sounds like a great deal. My only concern is still with the warranty only being 1 year and the insurance company not being able to insure, for ex., the repair of something in the body of the camera that stops working. But I guess insurance companies just don't do that.

Yes, and yes. Just search "Brandy McGrew" here on the forums. They cover any sort of loss or damage except terrorism and theft from an unlocked vehicle. It's friendly, quick, and cheaper than I thought it would be...

Just heard this back from someone that works with Brandy:

Regarding the type of insurance we offer, we cover many things including
theft, accidental damages, transit, smoke, water, earthquake and flood.
Our policy is considered an all-risk policy, but it does not cover Wear
& Tear. So if your camera breaks down due to a malfunction, our policy
does not cover it. If the camera is damaged due to an unforeseen
incident such as theft or some of the other things I mentioned, our
policy would cover it.

thats when your camera "accidentally" falls off a cliff during a shot.

no the warranty period is limited to one year and there is no way to extend the warranty period beyond one year....
