  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LIKE kino flo.. except cheaper..

We're carrying the new line from FilmGear, including their product called Flo-Box. I was skeptical of the quality as it looks like a knock-off until the Tech that repairs them said they are actually up to par as far as quality goes.

If you want pricing information, send me a PM or email me tsutherland - at -birnsandsawyer - dot -com.

Here's the FilmGear site: http://www.filmgear.net/b_flo_main_01.htm
We are the only US Distributer of this product that just arrived the Friday before NAB.

Well! know which company you talking about!
Here in Mainland China many of the gear company making kind of gears!

There are many inexpensive brands out there. Flolight and Ikan are two that come to mind.

I just bought a 3 light Kino Diva package and I have to say these lights are soooooo sweet.
I know the knock offs are tempting but the Diva 400 is just as bright as a 4x4' regular kino/Flo light at 1/2 the size and it's dimmable. They cost a little more but not that much more.
Check out B&H they seem to have the best prices on actual Kinos.

You may try to find out one of brand from French, I remember in 2003 I been work with a Dop from French call Patrick, he design kind of T5 Soft Light very cool and strong, it allow you to connecting many lights together but not need extra ballast.

Cheers

I have one 4 bank ballast from these guys. I've had it for over 5 years, it went in once under warranty. The ballast gives me less trouble vs my Kino versions. I also like their head cables over Kino, the cable is more flexible and the connectors are metal and can be repaired vs Kino's molded connectors. Haven't used their lights, I think someone is LA has been a dealer for a few years. No experience with the actual lamps.

However, going forward, I will buy Kino so it's one local stop for all service and parts.

I was given some of those units (the ones like that Ebay or Prompter link) to use a while back on a commercial/viral video. You have to be really careful with flicker; I was using them along with some Kinos that i own and while the Kinos worked beautifully at all the framerates I needed to use (we did some highspeed) these flickered... and then we had to relight for the high-speed. You can see it in my latest reel -- the shot of the two girls with the mints -- they'res a very slight flicker on the blonde's face during that take that we had to remove for subsequent takes.

They were, however, very bright and fairly robust. Just know the limitations.

You have to work pretty hard these days to make a studio or location fluorescent that flickers. All Cool Lights models work around the world and are guaranteed flicker free. Can't speak for those other models.

I agree, flicker is a non-issue with modern electronic ballasts. For the past three years we've used an inexpensive Prompter People Flolight for out NAB display for the Phantom cameras. This year we had a Phantom v12.1 shooting at 6900 fps under it with no flicker issue.

For prices and customer service, I'll vouch for richard's cool lights.

I can vouch for Richard's lights having used them all over the world:)

Another vote for Cool lights. Love mine, great service too. I personally have not seen a cheaper variation.
