Hey everyone - some cool news. A feature film I worked on, shot here in Quebec called J'ai Tue Ma Mere (I Killed My Mother), has been selected to play at the Cannes film festival in the Director's Fortnight, and is in the running for a Camera D'Or.

This project was 100% shot on RED, and would not have been possible without it. Thanks to Jim and the RED team for giving us such a great tool!

Here's a quick breakdown of some key crew positions:

Written, directed and produced by: Xavier Dolan
Cinematographer: Stephanie Anne Weber-Biron
Line Producer: Carole Mondello
Starring: Anne Dorval and Xavier Dolan

Post production by the amazing group over at Poste-Moderne and Technicolor Montreal.

You can read about the Director's Fortnight lineup here: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118002806.html?categoryId=11&cs=1

I don't think it's the first - didn't Che play at Cannes last year?

We were just really glad to have the chance to make a movie with such high quality imagery for a really unbeatable price. The budget for the whole film was in the range of $170,000 CAD so the RED really added a lot of production value to the whole operation.

I've just updated the head of this thread with the film's title and crew positions now that the Director's Fortnight lineup has been announced.

Wow! Its always Great news when your film is selected to the Cannes Film Festival!
Even if it is out of competition, it's is still a great acomplishment! I often like the films in the 'Un Certain Regard' and 'Director's Fortnight' more than the ones in competition...
cheers to the crew and to Red!

Yup! LvT's "Antichrist" has been selected for Cannes and was shot entirely on RED by Oscar-winning DP Anthony Dod Mantle (BSC, DFF). Exciting times. I still don't quite understand why it's not on the "Shot on RED" page.

Wow! Great to see an embrace of the technology. I've heard an awful lot of complaining about the RED not being 'production ready' -- we shot 26 days, in hot cramped indoor conditions and -40 celcius winter conditions, and there was nary a peep from the camera. Seems pretty ready to me.

Thanks for all your kind words - this project was very much a labor of love. I hope those of you that are at Cannes enjoy the show!

Quick Cannes input: 'Un Certain Regard' and 'Director's Fortnight' are the 2 other competitions of the 3 Official Competitions in Cannes, totally part of the Cannes Films Festival. The big one is called "Selection Officielle", dedicated to the "big" findings in contemporary author films, or following the carreers of former "discoveries" (authors/directors), 'Un Certain Regard' honors first or second films, and 'Director's Fortnight' honors small foreign films with no distribution. All this is of course 'more or less', as there are sometimes exceptions. There are other competitions, but these are the main, and they are all part of the Cannes Film Festival.

Just to clarify that they qualify for IN competition, even in parralel selections. Now all these selections DO have "out of competition" inclusions every year for the pleasure of premiering some films (like Thelma & Louise in 1991, Star Wars a couple of years ago or Indiana Jones IV last year...)

Just wanted to correct the concept of competition in Cannes. So unless our threadholders film is "out of competition" in his selection 'Director's Fortnight', he's definitely "IN competition", which he is since he's running for Caméra D'Or... (He's just not in 'Selection Officielle' let's say, but hey???)

Congrats! You've made it in big Cannes Fest! What an achievement!

I was one third of the grip/electric crew! The shoot was a blast! (Except for that day shooting process trailer under freezing rain on the highway...)

It's great to see the movie go to Cannes. It had a great script and certainly deserves what it's getting right now. Everyone on the team deserves a pat on the back for helping it make it to the screen!

Hey Lewis, thanks for the clarification on the what's considered 'in competition' or not. I didn't quite understand the organization of the fest myself, but I've since amended the first post of the thread.

I'd sure like to go to Cannes one of these years - Lewis, any idea how much of it is open to the public?
