Before last night I was interested in the 2/3" Scarlet. After last night, only the S35 one will do. I finally understand what Jim Jannard meant several months ago when he declared 1080p an interim format. After seeing Red Ray, I don't want to shoot 2k or 1080p anymore. (Not trying to start a format war here, but Red Ray is that good).

although it has always been my intention to get the s35, all this new information has probably made the people's decisions who are on the fence about what scarlet to get a lot easier.

i want my s35 scarlet and my Red Ray and my Red Rocket and my Red Pro Primes! I want everything and I want them now! haha

although some will still want the 2/3 for it's frame rates.

I want the FF35 model but I may opt for the S35 model in the meantime. Have to wait and see what happens. Oh yeah, the RED RAY stuff last night was awesome to behold! I couldn't tell the difference between RED RAY compressed and the uncompressed 4K footage at all!

I'm willing to bet the S35 Scarlet will be the biggest seller in RED's lineup.

I don't know... That fixed-lens model looks like it could be the ultimate every day movie / still camera for personal and pro use. I'm buying one.

Indeed. While the 2/3" sensor and 3K output may not be tomorrow's technology, they are (or at least will be) available at today's price point. I hope the 2/3" will act as a stepping stone to something greater :)

The first time I ever heard of the Red was a post by Jarred in DVXuser.com three years ago or so that mentioned a camera with a 35mm CCD..... That made more sense to me than anything else I had heard all year. From that moment on I've been watching it's development with a fanatical interest.

Last night just reaffirms that the Scarlet is going to be my next camera, when I wasn't even planning on buying a new camera for another couple years.

I eagerly await.

Though I have been a member on this forum for quite some time (been lurking, basically), this is my first post, and I figured this was as good a place to post it as any :)

I'm a "film"-student at a Norwegian university, and I'm completing my degree later this year. This year we're shooting our movies on Sony EX3 with a P+S Technik 35mm adapter and Arri Primes (they're T 2.1, don't remember the model names). After watching the preliminary footage, I have to say that I'm going to go for the Fixed Lens 2/3" Scarlet. I really don't understand how people are able to focus T 1.3 lenses on s35mm. Seems like an impossible task if you're shooting wide open :P

Looking forward to a time when I can start shooting with my Scarlet!

t!

Talk to a AC with many years of experience he told me that the only way to do is focus pulling with the Red as he do with 35mm is to have T3,5 on the lens. Focus drop very badly.

Epic and Scarlet got to be more sensitive. That all i ask from those cameras.

Hi peeps im new to this forum :head_explode: :head_explode: :head_explode:

do you know where can i see that preliminary footage? tempted to get a scarlet.

Having different sensors sizes is the best part of the scarlet.
The 35 for people that want a camera that has the feel of small 35mm cameras and want to shoot projects that would normally be shot on film.
I think the 2/3 version will be more attractive to the people that now shoot beta or vericam and if we can use our lens and batteries all he better.

There a lot of beta owners on the fence right now that are looking for a system that will replace beta and have the longevity and universal acceptance that beta did.
Scarlet might have a good chance at it. With FCP and now Avid recognizing Red code it's on its way.
The next big step would be the acceptance of the flash cards as a universal delivery medium. That would happen if the the cameras could use economical non Red cards and off the shelf red approved card readers then the clients could download the Red codec, buy a card reader and take delivery of the cards and start editing. It would allow the client to keep the raw on the cards as back-up or re-use them as they see fit.

Dave.
