  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB '09 lens pics.

Finally some pictures. Thanks Matthew.

Did you guys get to slip an 8GB CF into that red with the Lomos? :)

Nah... Not my style.
I checked the 85mm on their projector.
Again, the Lomos were prototypes...
I'll reserve my opinion until a consumer model is delivered.

Well done Matthew.
Those Zeiss Compact Primes sure seem interesting. Cine build and FF35 coverage? NICE.
The T stop difference is bothersome, although as some have pointed out here, 18mm is pretty wide in FF35. So the 21 and 25 look slow at a T 2.9, but that's not AWFUL.
Who is selling them? Band Pro? Abel? Duclos?
Matthew or Paul,
How did the build quality and action feel?
Cheers,
Harry
PS- HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATTHEW!

How did you know it's my B-day?

Back to business...
The build quality on the Compact Primes was superb.
Classic Zeiss quality with smooth focus and iris movement.
Solid metal construction with new laser etched markings (instead of engraved).
The aperture blades are far more circular than those of the ZF lenses.
Yes, the speed varies from lens to lens and is a bit slow...
But as of right now, these are the only FF35 lenses that I like.
I haven't seen them on a projector, but I like the ZF's and I expect them to surpass the ZFs.

Saw another post where Michelle mentioned your b-day!
That's really good news about the build quality. I would have been surprised if it was not great. Laser etched, eh? I suppose the markings can be more precise that way. Ultimately I think they will need some longer focal lengths.
Looking forward to trying a set.
Cheers,
Harry

Happy birthday! and thanks for all the helpfull reporting!

Thanks for the pics.
And happy birthday!

Thank you for the photo tour, Matthew and a happy birthday!

Thanks !

Thanks !

Many thanks for the exposure Matt. All puns intended. It was great seeing the entire Duclos dynasty in the Luma Tech suite to see our humble prototypes. The Illuminas (built by LOMO) are a work in progress. We received many constructive comments from the many folks visiting us at NAB. Including people willing to vote with their checkbooks.

You are a gentleman to refrain from comparing prototypes to finished products, but we are clearly almost there. We feel very open about the fact that this is not yet a complete product, and invite comment both public and private.

The mysterious barrel distortion on the 50mm appears to be an anomoly. The factory control duplicate of this lens doesn't seem to show anywhere near as much barreling. We believe it is a build issue. Production units (at least 4 out of 5) are expected by the end of Summer, or early September.

Thanks again,
