Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Still did not understand properly the difference with the PRO newer version ... just focus/iris marks and exterior design, right ? i remember mechanics where silky smooth ...
New "Pro" model and old model have the same optics. The new model has the redesigned barrel to match the new primes. It is also marked in T-Stops instead of F-Stops. Mechanics are a bit better, maybe, the original 300mm had smooth mechanics to begin with.
My main complaint over the new Pro model is that a lens support is necessary, but RED incorporated no such support receptacle. I'm using the Zacuto lens support system, which is great, but I would've much preferred a regular bridge mount (universal mount) and a 3/8-16 bolt for about $375 less.
My biggest complaint with both models of the 300mm is the drop-in filter receptacle. Some filters, like Tiffen, don't fit. The Hoya ones do as they're a bit thinner...
black anodised BandW filters dont fit the thread of the filter holder (the silver anodised versons do...) Many filters also to fat (including the B and W ones) and must be slightly unscrewed in order to fit in the slot. Not a popular filter size either. Apart from that design 'mishap' is a great lens I think and I have used it on many tv drama shoots
