We got tired of setting up our remote head customers with high dollar lens drives(and waiting for delivery), so we built our own. Motors are $1400, three motor FIZ, with controller and amp is about $8500.
The controller isn't as spiffy as an arri, but we have a lot of the same features packed in, at a fraction of the price. Adds another option to the remote FF fray.
As always we also have our great little remote head, with about 60 rigs out there now. We will be at booth #c9844.
Thanks!

Wow...

How much for the controller? $1400 for the motor isn't bad.

Matthew

$1995.00 for the controller, $1750 for the amp,so a single motor system comes to about $5600, with cables. We have 3 systems being beta tested by one of our head customers(since 1st of the year), but NAB is the first time release for everybody else, so pricing may change.

Matthew, thanks! Being the poor slob that machined the controllers, an attaboy is welcome.

No wireless yet, that's next.

Well the real question is are the motors industry standard? As a guy who has 4 hedens and an m-1 lying around, do they all play nice together?

Nice looking setup, congrats,

Nick

Mmm, no I don't think so. The VF is a different configuration. You could run them on a preston/bartec/arri/cmotion controller, or off our remote head controller. The motors are 'dumb', so to speak. We built them as a strait preston/arri replacement. Preston makes great stuff, but we have had such a hard time getting(and paying their prices!) motors for our customers that we decided to enter the arena:beer:

whats the availability of the motors.....ACTUAL...availability....i am already in one line

We don't have very many new on the shelf. Three. We build 90% of everything we do in house(milling in house, roundy bits get sent out), so turnaround isn't too bad. Three to six weeks for a new run.
We ordered a fair number of driven/drive gears, and the other lathe/hobbing parts, so it is mainly a matter of getting yours truly to machine the cases. We are not preordering, our products are either available or not.

Woza, interisting.

Tell us about the features and what it can do!

Well, you can record lens data, so that a swap is just hitting reset to zero the motors. You can record marks, so that the drive just goes from one mark to the other. Rates & limits are tune-able.

We use a grease 'trap' to make the focus knob smooth, the iris has a stainless-on-teflon contact, again for smoothness. The zoom toggle can be rotated for vertical or horizontal operation. Genuine walnut handle.
(I am lying, I have no idea if the walnut is genuine)

The drive motors are a single-stage worm gear, with adjustable lash.
German motor, integrated encoder. The worm output runs on its own set of bearings, it can't stress the motor bearings. 19mm rod mount, with sleeve for 15mm, or preston mount. We have three gear pitches.
Light, I'd have to toss one on the scale to get a real number. Very narrow, one inch. Output can be bolted to the right or left, if configuring a lens gets tricky.

As for lists, again we don't do that. If you contact us we will get in touch when the units are on the shelf. I guess thats sorta a list.
I'll put it this way, Talon heads, talon controller, handwheels, panbar(with focus/zoom), power supply, cables, and cases are in stock, and ready to ship. Order a head it will be in your sweaty mitts in a week. Getting all that stuff together is alot harder than some little FIZ motors.

If I sound a little grumpy, I gots a bad tooth, and am getting a root canal in a week. I'm missing NAB because of it, but I got to go last year, so thats OK.
We can screw up deadlines like anybody else, but alot of the reason we decided to build a FIZ is the slow response from preston. Cost too, from preston three motors and an amp run damm near as much as one of our heads.
There isn't anything easy about manufacturing, thats why we beta test before going to market. Ya sleep better, even if it costs you some money.

We also make a focus knob/zoom toggle for panbar/jib aps. Priceing TBD, but they will be reasonable. The focus can be run horizontal or vertical.

Thanks!

If I sound a little grumpy, I gots a bad tooth, and am getting a root canal in a week.

If it makes you feel any better, I got one last week, and it was actually painless. Stressing about it was worse than getting it.

I like the FF.

Cheers,

Nick

Getting the root canal done... painless.
Getting there......ahhh.... what a pain.
Been there many times (a thing of the past now). Implants allaround and laughing at your pain (just kiddn). (wish I was born with them to begin with)

I sorta enjoy the dread and fear. It is no good anymore, the dentists have gotten too skilled. I problably won't even have an excuse to take a day off work. The nice thing is I'll be getting a bling crown.

Would love to hear feed back from the show, from anybody, even if you hate the gear:lurk5:
