LA based director of photography Matt Uhry, who is also acitve on these forums has confirmed his reservation for a full set of the new Luma Tech

Hey Charles -

I'll see you at NAB for sure. Curious if M. Uhry has already seen these lenses?

I've not seen the lenses yet, but did talk with Grigory and Charles. I was impressed with their experience, philosophy and also their openness about what the lenses are and can do.

What I like about Illumina Lenses:

-Full Disclosure of who designed it, and who built it, and what's inside.
-BRASS / STEEL / ALUMINUM construction should maintain tolerances tighter for longer.
-T1.3 is a WHOLE stop faster than T1.8 and sometimes you need / want that.
-18mm is a known quantity as far as cost / stated performance / delivery.
-The Lenses look to be a good, AC friendly design as far as size and markings.

Obviously my partners and I are going to have a good look at the final product before handing over the cash! I'm sure the other lenses at NAB will look good too, but it seemed to me that Charles and Grigory are on the right track with this.

I look forward to your comments on these. Pretty sure "I'm in if you're in". A good set of 1.3s come in handy.

Nice! Has cost been announced?

Nice Matt

I am very interested in seeing these as well. T-1.3 is fast and Lens mechanics are the most important factor when choosing a good set of multi purpose lenses. The lens look being number two. I say this for 2 reasons.

1. If the look is okay with a set of lenses but the mechanics are excellent the lenses will be good to work with and get a person excellent results.

2. If the look is great but the mechanics are just okay the lenses will be a burden to work with and good results will be much more difficult to achieve. A great look with so-so mechanics is fantastic for still photography but not that friendly for motion work.

It's nice to know there is going to be a lot of competition in the primes ring. Competition keeps things honest.

Please note that I am not saying that these have better mechanics then red lenses or vice-versa. All I am saying is that mechanics beat look hands down when it comes to lenses and the reason why a good set of super speeds sell for way more then brand new still lenses of a better visual quality. It's all about the mechanics.

I got an email from FJS International offering a special NAB price of US$28,500 for the set if ordered during NAB either on the show floor or online.

Great deal I think!

HTH
