  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi Rich,

We have a preorder and NAB special price of $3,995, normally $5,995. The shipment being assembled now is already spoken for. The next production run is estimated to ship late May or early June. We will make every effort to make it sooner if possible, but we don't want to rush putting them together just to have a bad product. Once we have the assembly bugs worked out, production and shipping will be quicker and the price will be $5,995.

What's included

- 1 x GearNex Geared Head
- 1 x Mitchell plate or 150mm ball or 100mm (choice for PreOrders only)
- 2 x 5" hand wheels
- 1 x Tilt hand wheel extension shaft
- 1 x Training guide
- 2 year limited warranty

Answer - We are considering bringing the price up after NAB but it really depends on the demand and our understanding on how many to make per run.

The geared head is becoming somewhat of a lost art.. And there's a lot of camera people out there that see them, but do not realize how incredibly useful they are. This could be a fantastic product at a good price point. The standard in the industry is the ARRIHead of course, but it's out of reach for some people. This will allow people that could not afford a geared head to get into one.

And if all goes well, you may see an INFO TECH episode on this in the near future. Stay tuned!

Thats a great price point for a good gear head.

What weight capacity are you expecting? Will it fly my 12:1 with onboard monitor, 6x matte box, 2x batts, drive .......

Jay is correct, 50lbs is the max load we recommend. It is a smaller unit then an Arrihead because it is designed for the newer digital cameras out like the RED.

First GearNex complete

First GearNex complete

Well here is the first GearNex put together for NAB.

In this picture are the optional 6" wheels and an optional dovetail. The rear shaft housing is not anodized in this picture but will be before NAB.
 
I've always wanted a geared head. This price is tempting. But man is it aesthetically unpleasing. Hopefully it's well made and smooth.

Perhaps servos could replace the wheels for some moco moves.

The wheels are over sized in the picture for testing purposes and may detract from the looks in this picture. Also, the picture was taken from a camera phone. My recommendation is to see it at NAB or wait until we get a better shot to post on our website soon at www.GearNex.com.

But I assure you, everyone who has seen it in person says it is extremely sexy looking. The anodized black against the brass and metallic gears is stunning. As well as the red anodized against the the black base really pops.
 
Who cares how it looks like as long as it performs. (BTW, I think it looks great :-)

I ordered it already but
That is what strikes me: a bit too flashy !
you remember, most cameramen dress in dark to avoid reflections an most gear is dark , often for the same reason, then suddenly a red spot !
May we have the choice of black or dark matte grey please ?

Not sure we will do this for everyone but we did run a set of grey for an idea of what it would look like, if you want Jean Luc, I can send you a picture of it and if you like it just include those for you.

With that said, most of the gears are covered in the black housing, we where very careful not to make it to shiny. Bret Allen SOC, is my partner and he has much experience with geared head's from the past, so he knows what to look out for.

Thanks for bringing this up, as I explained in another thread, we are including for free an extension shaft for the tilt hand wheel if such an issue arises. I forgot to write that in the above comment, I will fix that.
