FCP - weird problem with realtime playback

For the last half year I've been editing with the proxies without any problems. Just put the settings to Unlimited RT and Low quality playback. Yet now all of a sudden - with the same settings in that menu - FCP does not play it back in low quality anymore. All is in the highest quality, while it clearly states that it is set to Low quality. Everything looks crisp and fine, but of course then the system can get a hard time keeping up with playback. Resulting in a system that is quite hard to work properly on (audio starts skipping as well). I've already opened older projects, which still play back in Low quality. However as I drop footage from the new project in an old timeline, the new stuff still looks full quality. Weird..

Anyone have a clue on what might be the problem here? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Are you working with 4kHD material?

Also, if you haven't allready, try trashing your FCP prefs, although that may not be the problem since it works on other, older projects.

I had similar problems with some footage, and apparently if the "MAX" check box is checked you will have performance issues with the proxies.

Thanks guys. The proxies are all 2K, similar to other projects we've done so far.

Colin, which check box do you mean? Is it somewhere in FCP, in the camera menu, RED Alert..?

Camera menu.

Thanks for the help so far. We gave the checkbox a try and switched it off. However with the latest footage (recorded with the checkbox unchecked) we somehow still have the same problem..

Does anyone have other suggestions on what might cause this problem?
