I just bought a ton of BNC cable from http://www.monoprice.com
RG59U 75 ohm well made (but not Canare) but still perfectly fine for HD-SDI up to 100' (yes I tested all of them on my Red). Check out the prices...

I was able to get...
2x6'
2x12'
2x25'
4x50'
2x100'
All for about a $100 with shipping.

I also have their 50' HDMI and Toslink cables running my 1080P projector and they're flawless. These guys are the anti-Monster cable.

I'm not affiliated with these guys at all just thought I'd pass a good deal on to my fellow Redusers.

Whoa...is this better than getting the 75ohm "security cam" cable that Frys Electronics sells for roughly the same price? That stuff cuts out on me.

I've been buying cables from them for a while--sorry I didn't mention it earlier. You cannot beat the prices for everything--color coded HDMI, speaker cable, USB, etc.

A few months ago, I was away from home and forced into a Best Buy to get a firewire cable for $30. When I told the guy I not only have 10 at home, but I could buy it online for $3, he actually took down the website name to buy his personal cables from and suggested I return it after I use it.

I was at the going out of busines sale at Circuit City and they tried to give me a special deal on a 50' HDMI cable for 30% off the $300 price tag. A sales guy saw me looking at it in shock and he said, "That's a great price for that..." No surprise why they went out of business.

Just ordered a pile of cables, thanks Evin!

Monoprice is a good source. I've been using them for years. I prefer the Belden RG59 for HD-SDI cable though or go with RG6, but you will lose some distance.

Their HDMI / DVI cables are great.

Monster Cable sucks. I can't believe people actually believe the BS propaganda that Monster has been feeding the industry for years.

Thanks...

Hi Evin,

How is their flexibility for on-set work? I've run into some cables that can't relax from their "on-spool" shape.

Michael

Flexibility seem great, these are good cables but not the best, but BNC gets trashed so fast on set I'd rather just replace cheaper cables more often, as long as they hold signal which these do.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but how have these Monoprice cables been holding up?
There are a few reviews on their website saying they had issues of noise on set when sending feed from camera to monitor.

Anyone..?

I am curious too.....

While I love to save money, high bandwidth cables is not where I want to experiment with some random deal. 1.485 Gpbs HD-SDI requires everything to be perfect - the cable, the connectors and the termination. I will buy my cables from a known high-end source or build my own. Wasting time with fiddly cables is not worth the money saved IMHO.

I've had mixed experience with them. They're good and cheap, but I've also had interference from walkies that cut out the signal (but not consistently). Probably not the best for mission critical runs.

I have a box full of them that I'll trade for a pair of AA batteries and a packet of gum. . .

They "work" but honestly the connectors are so badly made that they break after about 1 day on set. I've sworn off of them for SDI. For HDMI, yes, Monoprice is fine.

I wouldn't recommend them for practical on-set use. I had about a thousand feet of assorted length moonrise HDSDI and it worked for a while, but I have since thrown all but a few 15ft cables out. They are not reliable enough for mission critical work and honestly when a client is asking why the picture keeps cutting out on a $100K production, it's simply not worth the savings of a few bucks on cheaper cables. I loved the cables for their flexibility, but they just don't hold up well enough for my kind of work unfortunately.

Thanks guys! That's what I was thinking. Going with some better RG6 BNCs
