I wanted to get a feel for what others with still lenses were gonna go for.. FF or S35 Scarlet. Personally i'm tired of the crop factor. Wanted to get other's thoughts considerations that are in the same position.

I'm going FF35. But I'm not planning on using any of my lenses (Manual Canon FD).

I'll probably take a look at what RED is offering and then go from there. My lens budget isn't going to be huge for FF35 since I only intend to shoot FF35 for fun and rent pl glass for motion projects and crop.

Remember that every 35mm movie ever made has the dreaded "crop factor". It's what viewers are used to seeing. If shooting full frame is actually tougher than S35 than I won't be inclined to shoot it. It's challenging enough right now.

That's definitely an option and like you state you can always go backwards (using PL mount lenes). I'll have to use my Nikons or rent pl if I have the option until i get my RRPs or MPs :sifone:

I do realize that, and I realize that its not a issue for most people and to your point that's just the way it has been done, I'm not one for features just for the features sake bragging rights or reinvent the wheel. Perhaps i'm just scarred from the crop on 1/3 CCD camera's. I shoot photography also and refuse to buy another non-FF camera.

In indie low budget stuff there are alot of things that hender you like space (im sure we all know). I've been in tight spaces and to get 35mm u need a 24mm or less and then speed becomes and issue.

I've got the Canon 24 1.4 so I'm doing pretty well for wide-ish and fast. Good point about wide angle though. I'm willing to test anything... maybe it'll be a better way to go but I'm worried about focus pulling being tougher. It's as tough as I want it to be right now.

Show off.., u Canon guys... I hear you though...

As far as focus, I learned film making grassroots, for a long time I didn't know pulling focus was something somebody else was supposed to do! I mean it was hard at first but so were most things in life, I guess if you want to do something bad enough you'll figure out how to do it! I didn't even know the term "pulling focus". So yeah i have been pulling focus myself and for a while with no follow focus so...

Those of us coming from lens adapters are used to lighting for f5.6 - f8 anyway at this point.

Another thing in regard to focus on FF shouldn't the sensor be noiseless enough to bump up the ISO to a resonable amount to be able to stop the lens down to deepen the DOP? Maybe im being to idealistic...

I think the Nikon G 14-24 will be very popular on the FF35 wide end. It can't take traditional screw-on filters, so for daylight stuff I suppose you'd need a mattebox.

Epic-X upgrade for us means the decision for S35 is obviated, even though we now shoot nothing but Canon Glass and are ectstatic with the results. I imagine many or most R1 owners will take advantage of Epic X upgrade....its a no brainer if you can find the cash.

I wish they made that with a manual iris especially after reading the review on it...

i wonder if Nikon G lenses can be controlled electronically on DSMC?

speaking of which, i just purchased and received my Nikon G>EOS adapter from 16-9.net. it has an actual lever on it that allows you to ride the iris on a 5D2, for example. i suppose that might work on DSMC with Canon mount, if all else fails?

According to Jim, No to electronic controll of any lens other than RED FF35 lenses. However, it would be so convenient if the Scarlet and Epic Nikon mount provided for a way to ride the iris when we use it as a dumb mount.

I read a post to where Jim shot to somebody's ass for that question (scarlet being able to control lenses from other manufactures). I'll try to find it and post it.

Jaadgy beat me to it

That's an Idea...

So the level controls G lens apertures. Do all older Nikon lenses that have aperture rings also work well on that adapter?

That 14-24mm does look cool. If I did landscapes I'd probably feel obligated to get that one. I do people... most of the uber-resolution stuff just doesn't matter that much to me.

maybe this guy building the NIKON G>EOS adapter is going to get a new flood of business.

Just hoping my Birger Canon Still lens adapter will also fit onto the EPIC?

PS Gavin why not Canon FD as the coverage is bigger tha the EOS digital lenses!!!

Because I assume the Canon mount for Scarlet will be the new Canon Mount and not the old FD mount.

I guess it would. Does the Birger mount have a manual control to ride iris, or buttons or anything?

What confuses me is why the attitude from Red is "of COURSE we couldn't do that" when we're sitting here talking about an adapter that does that.

If the Red Canon mount cannot control the iris of Canon glass, it would certainly boost the sales of older Nikon glass that has manual iris rings. Spending so much money on an Epic body and accessories, I think I simply will not have enough left over for anything but Canon or Nikon glass.
