Hi All,
This may be in the wrong place, and also may be an obvious question- but this was texted to me last night, and I wanted to check I'm giving the right answers, as this isn't my field of expertise, and my editors are on holiday!
"Does he know what output settings to use for the colourspace & gamma from RedCine to create useable DPX files for a vfx pipeline."
I replied that he should use the settings the DP originally recorded the footage in, unless there was any issue or mistake made there.
he replied:
"I assume he means 'use whatever colourspace and gamma were used to record the original files'
but that isn't what people seem to do
there are about 8 options for each of these two settings so its probably going to be trial and error"
"ok well if you do chat to him just say that I'm making DPX/Cineon files that I have to give back to edit and there is no consensus on what settings to use"
"Its very different if you're the camera op
because you have all the data in the camera as r3d files
once it leaves to go into post, that's where the shenanigans seem to begin
thanks for asking though"
Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone, and Happy Easter!
James.
