  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Meet Mr.T... in full 5k.

INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Look at that smoothness, that definition, that color richness...even after jpeg compression...

Well, Graeme, i think you're right...
...going to have a VERY strong drink...

So...Jarred, please repeat the program and delivery schedule are going well....PLEASE.

That color...

Amazing work guys.

Antoine

They are fun, and there's always value in that. They show that the thing works and delivers, which is of course, darn important. Beyond that and I am hesitant to read any more into them. Obviously you should keep posting them judging by the excitement they cause -- I can only speak for myself in regards to their informative value.

I guess what I'm concerned about are people trying to analyze this in terms of being "5K", etc. There simply isn't enough information here to go on in terms of whether this is visibly better than RED ONE's 4K.

Thanks David... your point, as usual, is very well taken.

Down the road, when you get around to posting some high-frame-rate Epic footage, I'd love to see a Jesus Lizard hot stepping it at 350fps.

Come on, I know you have one of them kicking around the Red Zoo...

No, it's a prototype demosaic that is still being tuned to the new sensors.

Graeme

Jeeze Louise! While the demo pattern is certainly visible, at that magnification you're going to see the pores in the acoustic screen too! LOL.
Graeme work your magic!

now I know why Red want to build some ranch at LV, actually it will be Red ZOO :costumed-smiley-047:sifone:

Some choose to acknowledge what they can't tell about the image. Well just looking at it for what it is all I have to say is WOW!!! Clearly this particular image puts a frame grab from this sensor on par with anything I've seen from the best photography has to offer!

Sure 100's of pictures in different situations need to be viewed to make this statement more definitively, but just the knowledge given and the image itself are enough for me to draw some very positive conclusions.

I'll be looking forward to more images (still and moving) in different circumstances especially high contrast natural light stuff, but no reason to complain about anything I've seen thus far. Did I say WOW??!!!!

P.S. Since you're listening to the peanut gallery. Do you have any footage of something high speed??? Say a Cheetah chasing a Thompson's Gazelle from daylight, into the shade, back into daylight, at say 100-200fps where the cheetah takes up most of the frame, and the chase is coming towards the camera? If you have some of that just laying around from your monstro chip and and your auto-focusing lenses could you please post that? I'd like that so I can also critique the shortcomings of your lens auto-focusing systems. And oh yeah I want that full res un-retouched still when the cheetah is half in daylight and half in the shade. ;-)

no problem.. ill get to that tomorrow :)

I see why he's called Mr T and not Mr Handsome. :)

But the shot looks really great. I'm guessing that this type of 5K-acquired Redcode RAW footage is going to look ridiculously awesome at 4K. So much so, that DPs and directors are going to start throwing their 35mm cameras down the laundry chute and picking up 5K+ red cameras at a much, much faster pace than most people expect.

That would be our sincerest hope... :-)

The people in the red team loves animals! first a dog, after that a lizard and now a turtle! what will come next? "earthworm in 5k! "

- It will look awsome!

new milk girls :sifone:

Just to set the record straight Mr.T is a Three-Toed Box Turtle.....=)

The image is VERY sharp, I would say it's way sharper than the RED ONE footage seen at 100% magnification.

I've played a bit with it in Photoshop and it shows more than 4K pixels of effective horizontal resolution.

Could it be that you are using a light (or not at all) low-pass filter in this prototype?

Just curious.

BTW, after quite some commercials, short films and industrial vids, our Red One just finished its first feature in Valencia, Spain.

It has been five weeks of shooting for this film. It was the first feature length film shot in Valencia with the Red One camera and everyone was very happy with its reliability and image quality.

So kudos to the Red team. Thanks a lot for a great tool.

Jared,

This looks very nice -- BUT -- it's not testing the one thing holding back the Red (in my opinion), the DYNAMIC RANGE.

When is someone going to walk outside and point it at some bright clouds with the sun behind them?

The Mysterium-X sensor has over a full stop more DR than a Mysterium sensor. We will obviously demonstrate that well before anyone can buy or upgrade to the M-X. We are bringing up the new sensors, test boards and calibration now. It will be some time before we shake out the system, get it mobile and post some images. We'll also shoot Stouffer's of both in the same setup. Lots of image presentation to come, but hold on to your horses. We aren't ready yet. In the meantime, we are just including the community in on the fun. We see it, you see it.

Is the M-X expected to be rated the same as the original mysterium?
