  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

$699 5.6 inch 1024x600 monitor

HD-SDI will not show any LCD menus

Zakaree has corrected his statements Sean. HD-SDI will not give you any LCD menu. And it will not happen on RED ONE anyway due to its non standard resolution 1280 x 848 (something like that), HD-SDI is strictly 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080.

You can only see TC and reel from HD-SDI

HDMI to DVI

HDMI to DVI

So it sounds like for full menu functionality going HDMI-DVI with a monitor which will support the off-size would be the best route to go?

what about something like this:
http://www.lcdracks.com/monitors/v-r841dp-dvi.html

"RGB signals are digitized using advanced 10-bit processing and all accepted resolutions are scaled to fit on each screen..."

after looking through all this information, it really does bring me back to asking "what you need" out of the situation. I like the idea of an on-board monitor that was fully functional with menus, etc, but that could easily and quickly be relocated if the situation required it. obviously if it was just a field monitor for video village, it doesn't seem like menu functionality would be key, since the AC would need to be able to see the menus and actually be at the camera to control them.

I love the size and weight of the red on-board monitor, but buying a monitor that is effectively glued to the camera is a tough sell, from a functionality standpoint.

I'm afraid you dont have any other choice Sean. Me too sought for such alternatives. The best is carrion monitor but luis has problems with order, was lucky to get mine on early unit, i can see full menu without any cut off. But when you switch to Menu(DVI), you lost your HD-SDI signal, you need to be aware of this. What you're looking for is RED LCD, but you dont like the idea of being only for RED camera.

I just purchased the Manhattan LCD as well and am putting it through its paces now. I'll post some pics and a review next week. So far, so good...

I am being told by the person at IKAN (the person that would know) that the V5600 HDMI LCD will work with the RED. They are sending me a demo unit next week to check for myself and I will report back.

Does the new B18 help to have teh menus over teh HDMI?

from Jim Post:

"""""* Eliminated camera "menu lock up" when connected to a consumer HDTV set via HDMI cable."""""
