I was planning on getting some beach/surf shots in a couple hours and began wondering if there's anything I should know about taking my camera to the beach. I guess specifically how potentially damaging sand/spray is the the camera. I of course don't plan on getting it wet, and I doubt there will be any issue of sand getting in or on the camera, but I just wanted to get other's avice from their experience.

THANKS! :)

Have a space blanket or some kind of cover near by. If wind picks up in a hurry a sandblasted lens becomes worth less than a non-sandblasted lens.

Brandon,

I'm a few blocks from the beach near you and I can tell you that it is very windy. I wouldn't go today. Thought about it myself. Aside from spray, the wind will shake the camera, even a camera as heavy as the RED. One idea is to use a van and stay inside with the camera and shoot out the side or back door.

I indeed have my mat ready just in case.

Bob, I was planning on going to Carmel. is it usually just as windy there? It was great 2 days ago so I was hoping it would be similar today.

Carmel may not be as windy. Sorry for my late reply. Did you go out?

Did you go out?

Yep, ignored you and went out any way... and you were right :) We shot for about 15 minutes max, then packed up and went home
