For those of you who haven't upgraded their battery plates yet, do so.

I was on set shooting a commercial when the camera shut down for no reason. I knew it had to be a power issue, so I took the battery of the cradle and was about to attach back on but burned my finger.

I looked at the bottom of the battery and one of the connectors was melted. I'm not talking about a small repair, it melted so much that the connector inside the battery was no where to be found. I'm guessing it got lost amonst the ooze of plastic.

This upsets me for a few reasons, first one being that I haven't had a chance to send my camera in yet for any of the upgrades, and second being now I only have 3 batteries of use and a cradle that doesn't really work that well anymore (there's melted plastic all over it).

I'd love to get a new battery but without having to buy one of course :(. It just sucks because I've wanted to upgrade everything but I just couldn't because of the work volume I've been getting.

Oh wells :(

Did you get your Red One updated yet? The info on the battery plate is included in that letter.

If you have a late camera that does not need updating, your plates are fine.

Do you mean cameras that shipped with the new audio board? Mine was right on the border, 2434. Wonder if I have the old or new plate? I think it's the new one but can't be sure.

Red should be able to replace these immediately under warranty. We had this happen on one of our early plates as well and we sent three batteries and plate back to Red after getting an RMA number.

Red sent us back new plate and batteries. Great service!

Contact the Bomb Squad or your rep and see what they can do, especially if you're on set now.

It'd be nice if Red could confirm camera numbers and/or dates from which the equipment was upgraded...

Anyone?

I will make it even easier - see jpg. Left is old, right is current gen. Notice the guides on the mating pin assembly.

I've been waiting till my audio board upgrade to deal with this, however my 1 year warranty is rapidly approaching it's deadline. Will all this still be honored if the date slips past my warranted date? What SN# is currently on call for the update?

thanks!

Anything included in upgrade program is non-original warranty relevant as far as expiration date. If you VOIDED your warranty on your gear, you are not eligible for the upgrade program...period. Right now, we are servicing up through #1400.
